Old Gas Station Pictures

I used to work at these gas stations when I was in high school and later on at university. Learned a lot about cars back then but don't know anything about these new ones. It sure was fun back in the day street racing(dumb I know but I didn't know any better back then.) Picking up girls was also a lot of fun cruising along Yonge street on Friday and Saturday nights. But that is a story for another day. They sure were great times though. Too bad many of you young bucks had to miss all the fun!

back in those days things were much more neighbourhood oriented. the garages were owned and operated by folks that lived in your community, you went to school and played with their kids, they went to church with your parents. today it's all large chains and gas bars owned by numbered companies. in rural areas such as i live in, you can still experience a little bit of how things used to be. :D

Nice to hear that some of the old traditions continue somewhere.
No signs of that anywhere around here.
In the GTA area where I live you're just a number.:(

Thankfully he does not race around in Corvettes.

Hey back to topic, remember when EVERY gas station had a FREE airpump right out front by the doors. You'd crank the handle to get to the desired pressure and fill away! Those were the days. Sigh.

and the rubber line that ran across the lot and would ring a bell when you drove over it so the gas jockey would know you were there, lots of times they would just get $2. worth of gas and a quart of bulk oil, then peel off ....

They do sound like great times for sure. The 50's and 60's would have been a fantastic era to live through. Seems like today insurance regulations, budgets, shareholders and time are all more important than the customers that they serve or the community they are located in.

I only know of one Esso station in Saskatoon and some CO-OP stations that still provide free air. Everyone else charges money. Seems like we lost the service part of the service station years ago.
