Happy to report I took my 2017 GS in today to get its first free dealership oil change and the dealer, Wilson Niblet, put the correct Mobil 1 oil in without me having to ask. The service is specifically listed as "Corvette LOF Mobil1" on the invoice. Previously, I ended up doing my own break-in oil change at 800km because the dealership in my home town that I took it to at the time said they would put in whatever oil was printed on the oil cap and that Mobil 1 would cost extra.

That would be the last time I visited that dealer. Perhaps if we knew where your home town is, you might save some others that frustration.

An interesting development on the ongoing oil debate. GM has updated their software for doing work orders and the new software does not have a code for a Mobil 1 oil change. They input the code for an oil change and it prints out on the work order DEXOS semi-synthetic oil change. Service writer was a bit surprised as he knows Corvettes get the Mobil 1 oil changes. He investigated and came back out telling me that it was a new software issue and that in fact when the tech punches in the VIN it orders up the Mobil 1 0W40 oil for the Corvette. I then did a second check with a friend who works at a GM store and he confirmed it. I'm confident that the oil I'm getting is Mobil 1 but you would think that GM would have a special code for a $300+ oil change.

We have our final “inclusive” oil renew on our 2017 coming up soon - so thank you ... we will watch the work-order before signing it. Or we might go where we know it’s the norm (but realize it’s always something we have to watch for). Then, for us, it changes to watching for Mobil 1 sales at Canadian Tire, NAPA, etc ...

I ran into a similar issue with my first oil change, back in the spring of 2015 (dry sump). Service manager said Dexos, I said Mobile 1, he checked the computer and Mobile 1 it was.
Just an FYI: The dry sump is supposed to take about 9.8 liters. I had Dave at Race Ready do an oil change last fall and the car actually took a full 10 plus a bit. When I watched him drain the oil, he drained it from the main plug, then he drain another plug elsewhere. I never saw this before. When asked what/why he said there is residual oil left in the lines and they should be drained as well. Most places don't do this. Learned something new ... again.

Most of the big dealers in the urban areas have a Corvette specialist tech or two so they usually know most of the tricks. I think the GM computer calls for 9.75L or something like that for the dry sump engines. I know when I make an appointment they have to check to see if one of them is available. Also the Vettes take a special low hoist so the dealer has to have that hoist free. Bigger dealers will have more than one. When I took my GS in last week they had another vehicle on that hoist and they ran into trouble with the repair on that vehicle so I had to wait a little longer than usual to get in for my oil change.
Interestingly the DEXOS 2 synthetic is a very high spec oil but less than half the price of Mobil 1.

I use the drive through service at my dealership. They do a ton of Corvettes there and I got to know the guys in the pit over the last few years. They do a great job, are super careful with the car and enjoy chatting about corvettes. It’s really quick and frankly a fun time getting the oil changed. As clearly stated in the owners package... I have used only Mobil 1 in my Z06s.
Ya... I’m easily amused. 😂

Wish ours had that!

Great to know @ddgermann. I know the place and although I won’t buy there, I am wise enough to separate the service from sales and that salespeople don’t work in the service bays 👍🏻
(I don’t even wanna go there with that thought)🤣

FYI, just did my oil change in the truck today and saw on the front of the Mobil 1 bottle that it says Dexos 2 equivalent.
Yep, Mobil 1 has been certified as Dexos Generation 2 compliant. Amsoil is Dexos certified too. I think Quaker State may be another that has been certified.Valvoline passed all the tests but elected not to pay GM a licensing fee so they can't put the label on their product. As the saying goes, follow the money.
