Maiden voyage

Congratulations on your beautiful new ride Dan. That photo in post #8 says it all; your baby is smiling and asking to be taken out for a drive. Next up is Corvette Owners School at Spring Mountain, NV. Just got back this week and you MUST do it. Amazing experience as many here have agreed.

Thank you! Yes Spring Mountain was a topic of conversation just yesterday. I would like both myself and my wife to take the course. Heard great things about it.

Do I dare make this the maiden voyage, Golden to Ft McLeod this weekend? Weather looks not too bad, mountain pass may be wet but no snow in forecast. Might be a little messy but the car won't melt :)
Safe trip!!!

Final update, home safe and sound, 1084 kms not even a rock chip (that I've seen yet). Tach worked normally all the way home. Was very cool watching the Redline move from 4500 to 6500 when I hit 804 kms! Side skirts and splitter go on tomorrow, tint windows on weekend, then I am done until I see something else I want haha. Renamed the mild to wild to Mild to milder, too quiet for me, something needs to be done but I am more confused then ever after reading 1000 threads about exhaust.

In the settings on the big screen. Vehicle - Exhaust - select Track. Loud all the time. Yes! But if you are trying to go unnoticed then select Stealth. My neighbours are good with Track ;)

Mild to Wild switch opens and closes it from a fob, Track setting only opens exhaust after 1700 RPM and I have no neighbours :)

Nice drive home with the new baby. Is that a permanent grin on your face!

Is the 1700 rpm thing a change after 2017 Dan? On my 2017, at idle I hear a very distinct difference when switching from Stealth through Track. Same when cruising although it is less of a difference. Last August when the neighbours came over to ogle the new car, I demonstrated the difference between mild and wild and they all said, "We like the loud option, it sounds like a Corvette should." They may have a change of opinion after this driving year! I am considerate if early morning or late at night.

Enjoy discovering all the settings - so many options.

My neighbors know when I come and go ... otherwise shovel my walk once in a while instead of me always being the “snow angel” (shovelling theirs so it’s not tracked or melting on mine) and only then will I think about the mild mode. 🤣

I thought setting exhaust note to track via dic keeps flaps open always. Or pulling a certain fuse will!
Their is a screen setting for always open regardless of mode. Much safer to do as I never have track setting dialed as I’m never on the track - track mode does more than exhaust note. It can maybe be like that “Boeing mode 737 Max” when just cruising around and it set to “Track”.

Mine closes after initial loud cold start regardless of the setting. Virtually everything I've read says it opens at roughly 1700 rpm. This is why many are pulling the npp fuse out to keep it open all the time. I wanted to retain stealth for long distance cruising hence the mild to wild switch. The switch would be redundant if you could control npp at all RPM via the settings. From another forum member "Using the settings won't keep the valves open 100% of the time. Track is the most "open", but even in Track the valves will close to pass federal pass-by noise requirements. The fuse pull is the only way to prevent the NPP valve closure. I don't remember the details but Tadge said it was required. If I remember correctly it happens around 30 - 35 mph and revs in the high teens. Don't quote me on the numbers. I've read about this in many discussions and confirmed it with my car."

Then always ON regardless of
Dialed Mode is what we were told.
You can set it to stealth regardless of being in Track Mode. There is an “auto” setting (default) that then reacts to your dial mode ... you can hear all of them while in park and just idling 😁👍🏻

... or maybe we are talking about
Different things ??? However I just found out my wife has hers in sound management on track mode all the time (I’ve created a monster 🤣)

Another “interesting” thing we found is that you need to plug your phone into the console lid USB for Car Play features to work well.

AND

Disable the Bluetooth Phone setup too as we found it makes Car Play sketchy at times. With Bluetooth disabled, CarPlay has been most reliable....

Will double check tomorrow but was sure mine was already set that way and went quiet after initial loud cold start. Why would they sell so many of the switches and why are people pulling fuses?

Mine does the same in sport made Dan. It will close off the valves when cruising. We are talking drive mode knob here... not the screen selection for just exhaust note.

Don’t know about track mode as I never use it on the streets. (GM warns of suspension damage on rough roads)

I believe about the only way to keep the valves open all the time is pull the fuse as the car will default quiet again at cruising rpms. Can’t remember which one.

Tomorrow I will check as the Z is out of the barn.

I know mine goes quiet regardless of setting on screen or knob mode selection right after loud cold start.

Ok Dan today I tested the Z with the infotainment accessed sound setting selected for “Track”
Did this with the car in “tour” and “sport” drive modes. 250km of city, freeway and highway. The exhaust seemed like it stayed in loud mode the entire time.... although the revs were rarely below 2000.
Taking off from the lights or hitting it to pass it was loud as he// all day. Roaring under load and crackled like crazy on the down shifts.

So I’m good without pulling a fuse. 👍
This is the first time I have tried this and it’s hugely better than using just the drive mode alone to keep the valves open.

Unless my exhaust valves are now totally stuck... which is ok too.

PS: epic burnout today. Couldn’t resist. 😇
