Maybe not?If it was an X then yes unless he modified it.
I could be wrong, but I don't remember the X having anything but an 8. The plain old Gremlin sure did. Maybe everyone I saw / knew bought the V8.Maybe not?
The old boy had a Gremlin X and a Hornet X. Both had straight 6's and both were manual, 3 on the floor. The Hornet had more miles on it than anyone had seen (i can't remember the number)
I was wrong according to Wikipedia. I must just have never known anyone without the V8. The X was just an appearance package.I could be wrong, but I don't remember the X having anything but an 8. The plain old Gremlin sure did. Maybe everyone I saw / knew bought the V8.
I just read the wiki on it. Seems the 304 was available in them all, X or plain as an option. Not until the later yrs though. First couple yrs, only 2 different 6cyl were available.I could be wrong, but I don't remember the X having anything but an 8. The plain old Gremlin sure did. Maybe everyone I saw / knew bought the V8.
Ya, the old boy would have never sprung for an 8cyl.I was wrong according to Wikipedia. I must just have never known anyone without the V8. The X was just an appearance package.
That's amost definitely the 304 as the Randall 401 was a very rare (only 21 Gremlins got the 401) and they never put the 290 or the 360 in the Gremlin. If by chance it is a Randall 401, he has a truly great collector car. Here's my friends Gremlin V8. Not sure if its an AMC 304 ?

I don't know Murray. This was the 1980 pace car and there's not a lot of info on it. The pace car was an Amx in 1981 as well and it was powered to 450 hp with an inline turbo charged 6 cyl. That's all I got....@Rruuff Day what do you suppose this AMX had for power? Great Thread by the way!

With the 440 Super Commando engine, of course. How about a Ford Pinto , an AMC Pacer , and one of these….just to make up for the other two, lol .View attachment 115187
Didn't they poach Ford 351 V8 Clevelands?@Rruuff Day what do you suppose this AMX had for power? Great Thread by the way!

Look at the front under the bumper. With the 440 Super Commando engine, of course.
The MB shop in London had something similar (right side pic) in metallic green in their showroom last Spring.
I asked because they also had (I think) a 383 V8 version of just about everything "muscle" they made back then.Look at the front under the bumper.
