Just got a C6 LS2 - Help with Exhaust

That's exactly what I am looking for since I don't want to be crazy loud all the time I figure.

So would it be possible to do the Bullets or Magnaflow if it's just as loud and add a switch for a reasonable amount?

You can put a cutout on any exhaust system you want. I suggested a MagnaFlow or Corsa Sport for good fitment and a reasonable sound without being too loud. I would not choose a loud-ass exhaust system and then put a cutout on it. That would be defeating the purpose.

The cutout that you choose can certainly be electronically variable, so you can choose the amount of "loud" you want to let out. I would just do a simple full open or full close.

When you say defeating the purpose is that your opinion or is there another reason why you wouldn't want a loud exhaust with cut outs, to me going from super loud to quiet would be the entire purpose. Sorry, just want to make sure I am understanding you correctly and don't do something stupid.

"Going from super loud to quiet would be the entire purpose."

I'm saying that a Corsa Sport or a MagnaFlow exhaust system will give you nice sound without being unreasonably loud, and the cutout would allow you to get super loud when you want it to be.

Apparently BC is really cracking down on loud exhaust systems lately, and you could be at risk of getting a lot of fines if your exhaust system is too loud. If you were to close the cutout and have a nice exhaust tone they would likely leave you alone.

Yeah I am a ditz. I read last night about what a cut out is. I was under the impression it was something like flaps on the Fusion or NPP exhaust. So what you said makes TOTAL sense. I really don't know much about exhausts :S

I will probably do the cut outs and leave the stock exhaust (will that even work?) since far as I know I can use an electronic switch to open and close the exhaust.

This is most appealing idea yet. Perhaps I can add headers with the money I save on not buying the exhaust if headers will work good with the stock C6 LS2 exhaust and the cut outs will work with the stock exhaust. Time for more research!

I apologize for my stupidity and lack of knowledge. You weren't kidding when you said "I have the perfect solution for you. The best of both worlds....."

Thank you!

Electric cutouts can be added to any exhaust system. They replace a section of pipe whether it's aftermarket or stock. Headers work very well on these cars and will work well with stock mufflers as there isn't that much of a restriction with stock mufflers AND headers also increase the noise of the exhaust so you may get more sound even being stock. I should mention that headers don't just bolt up to stock exhaust but it's something that any shop should be able to complete.

I have been reading the cut outs can get hot and you may have to deal with fumes, melted springs on some cars from the heat etc. So are they something you couldn't just drive around with on a daily basis? If you just let your car sit and idle it would be safe? One guy on a forum said he just opens them for the track and that's it, for is quarter mile run. So if I can't just leave it open I may have to go back to an exhaust like the PRT or Bullets.

Hey i wouldn't go too loud, especially with something like cutouts. I know that Richmond RCMP can be quite the jerks at times and may give you more hassle than necessary, maybe even a fine and a inspection notice at one time. That would suck. This is my opinion but very loud does not always sound good.

I just put on a full Borla S-Type II system (header, x-pipe…full exhaust)

It is rumbly and crackly, and quite nice sounding before 3000rpm…after that it is super loud. At 75%-full throttle it screams like a race car, scares the poop out of people, I love it!

With the headers it does drone, but only at one specific rpm, somewhere around 1200rpm. I can usually modulate around this, so it is not that annoying…personally it does not bother me much at all.

I would only recommend the S-Type if you want the full race car sound. They have a touring model that is not as aggressive, and they also have the Attack…which must be just insane. I am not sure how just the Cat-Back version of this sounds, I would assume very good.

If someone has a loud exhaust, and that person can be heard tearing around showing it off in traffic and around cops...good luck is all I have to say. I have a very loud exhaust, but under lower rpm it just rumbles and crackles. Drive properly in the city and no attention required.

from what I recall in my chats with Manny. if you add headers, you should go to a cooler thermostat and add a e as well. as for exhaust cutouts, why not go with the same style as the z06 mild to wild setup. you can get the it to open and close the exhaust with a fob. my son has this setup and does not have any heat issues that you have mentioned. he has headers and akropovic exhaust system. he lucked out on the akropovic setup, was a demo unit on a vette owned by a european tuner shop. good luck on your project.

Hahaha its the JERKS with the loud exhaust giving the mounties more hassle than necessary! Let's get it right here. Take that loud a$$ POS out of the residential/populated areas if you want to get on the go pedal. I swear there is zero common sense left anymore. I am not even considered old and crabby yet....well wifes vote doesn't count, and I love a good sounding exhaust. But I am absolutely sick of the excessive speed and noise in town at EVERY hour of the day and night. Have some respect people and keep a positive light shining on our hobby/love as viewed by others not in the culture. Around here its mostly the young punks with their jacked up diesel, fuel tuners and straight pipes. Complete a$$hats and WAY more tickets need to be written and maybe even some of those made to be returned completely to stock....wasting 5 to 10 grand on mods and then having to lose it all sure makes u wish you would have had a little more common sense and restraint on the noise/stunting. Keep in mind alot of the members are gearheads as well. But if you are being harrased by law enforcement for vehicle infractions....get your stuff together and figure out what you did to get noticed and what you could have done different!

Well said my friend. :Cheers2:

Really it is getting worse? As long as I can remember, and as long as there have been hot-rods and muscle cars, there have been loud cars/trucks. There has also been kids tearing around causing chaos as-long-as I can remember too, I grew up with lots of them. My older cousins, a generation before, all owned muscle cars and slammed pick-up trucks with V8's. The difference now is the local populations are are growing, and we live in a ever increasing granny state (disagree with that?). Cops used to come and scold us all the time for doing burnouts in empty parking lots, but hey, we were not drunk, and we were not criminals. All we got was just a scolding, and them sending us on our way. The difference nowadays is every kid is a criminal if they so much as fart in the wrong place. ;)

I mainly only disagree with your approach. People should watch their speed, in town, and around housing. There is always a bad apple, so simply ticket the hell out of that apple, and leave the rest of us alone. As you stated, many of us on here are gear heads, and we love our cars. I guarantee you that a crack down, and cops actually LOOKING for loud cars will affect way to many of us, not just hooligans. Imagine all the show cars and hot-rods, and bikes that would be affected from a crack down. By law no one can have bigger exhaust size than stock, that includes cat-backs and even just tips. People who do not deserve punishment at all will get caught in the mix, just due to one mistake, one road block, or just in the wrong place with the wrong angry cop with something to prove...as he is giving a standard speeding ticket. What needs to be realized is, if a true enforcement is passed, they will be looking all the time, and that will suck for the whole community period.

As a side note: It is funny how people hate the loud vehicles, I personally try and guess what drove by when I hear it...guess, just call me an automobilesexual?

I know the thread is old but felt I should chime in.
My exhaust; LG Headers, Hi-flow Cats and Borla Attak mufflers. I drive it every day from May till Nov. Leave for work well before 7am, I keep the revs at 2000rpm in town, 50-60km/h, it keeps the noise down, it also keeps the car from bucking...Big Cam, one of Manny's Grinds!!
No big throttle until I'm out on the highway or back roads, on-ramps etc. from that conservative thinking I have had no tickets, or issues with Police. Before the Headers and hi-flow Cats were installed, I had just the Borla Attak Catback and it was not nearly as load, just a deep rumble. Now it sounds like a Nascar, no drone, just deep tones until you open it up...past 4000rpm is serious sound. Lot's of comments from other drivers, all Good!
I have straight pipes on my Shovelhead, had tuned straight pipes on my Sleds and when I drove Truck I had six inch straight pipes on them...all good, just be loud at the right times.
