Picked up my first Vette, way too quiet. It is an Auto so from what I have been reading online not every exhaust will sound great.

I know people have a lot of different opinions on sound but I am looking for a DEEP and LOUD Muscle car sound. The NPP sounds alright but I want something louder without doing too much more work. It pretty much will be a daily driver as well.

Are there any Corvette meets coming up where I may be able to hear some different exhausts or anywhere else I can hear any exhaust just to see what I like and what I don't like? YouTube just doesn't work so well.

I am in the Vancouver area and not sure where I could go.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you.

C604... Welcome to the forum.. Welcome to Corvetting...!
You just missed our Corvette show at DUECKs in Richmond on Father's Day!!

Are you wanting to change the exhaust completely?
Just the cat-back & mufflers?
Headers?
I have headers and CORSA exhaust.. Quiet at idle, loud when you get on it.
Check our Riverside a Corvette Club website for Autocross event scheduling, you might hear some nice cars.
Send us a pic of your new ride.

Thank you both for your responses.

I actually came out to the show at Dueck for a bit near the end. I hoping to hear something but they were during the raffle draw and all was quiet.

I am considering headers, as long as they don't do any harm or affect driveability in a negative way. I was leading towards B&B Fusion for the mild to wild but with further reading I hear the B&B PRT is designed for auto's and had good sound to it. Apparently close to one of the Corsa exhausts that have the sound I am looking for. Trying to find a place to buy the PRT now to see pricing, maybe from the US.

Will adding an X-pipe right of the bat help with the new exhaust? I have read conflicting posts. I am not sure how long I will keep this for, could be two years or way longer. So putting $2k into an exhaust is about far as I want to go unless headers will make it that much better.

I always said if I ever get a Vette I would do the exhaust, upgrade the stereo and rims if needed. But on this car I need an exhaust more than anything.

Hello C604Van. Welcome to the forum. My first Corvette was an 09 C6 LS3 with stock exhaust. I discussed this at length on this forum and the overwhelming response was to go with the Corsa Sport exhaust. I did not do headers or the x-pipes. My research indicated that the Xpipe were a plus for the LS2 and prior but the LS3 pipes had good flow characteristics and the x-pipe was money I didn't need to spend. If you intended on headers and larger diameter pipes all the way, that would be different but be warned, you will not stay close to that $2000.00 mark for a decent quality system. I went with the Corsa Sport axlebacks alone and was totally happy with the results. At an idle, which was totally quiet before, I gained a throaty rumble that promised much more. Put your foot into the pedal and the exhaust totally wakes up and sound freaking great. Back off to highway cruise control speeds and there is ZERO drone noise. This is very important as there are some great sounding exhaust systems out there for less money but it grows tiring fast on a road trip when you can't hear the radio or conversation in the vehicle, and after a hundred km, you still hear the exhaust in your head two hours later. The Corsa Extreme is the next step up for total aggression sound but I wanted something that i could back off a bit if the situation required (sitting at a light beside the local law enforcement). Good luck whatever way you go and happy cruising.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for your input. For some headers alone I saw it was $1k and the exhaust by itself is $2k with taxes/installation I can see me being far from my $2k budget. I can up it if I am not happy with the sound but assume I will be from what I read about the exhaust.

The part where you said you can still hear your exhaust in your head two hours later scares me which is a good point. I have read the PRT doesn't drone so so it shouldn't be an issue. Your Corsa sport seems to be exactly what I am looking for so I will look into that some more and compare it to the PRT. I don't want to put more money into than I have to in case I do decide to sell it.

Thank you for your help Eric.

Corsa's are very good. But some people go with borla, b&b and other catbacks because of the deeper sound. But if you are planning to get headers then those catbacks will drone too much and will be too loud. So if your planning to get headers your probably better off with the corsa's.

Glad to help. Billy Bob is sure promoting the no drone aspect of the PRT so I'd assume they wouldn't jeopardize their name by exaggerating their statements. I don't know anyone who has the PRT so can't really comment. I only comment on the Corsa from personal experience and the positive reports from some of the other members here. If you really want to be sure of an exhaust you will like, take your time, get some feedback from owners and listen to some corvettes. Good Luck.

From what I have read the Corsa Sport are more of a European sound while the PRT is deeper which is what "I think" I want. At this point I just want something louder period, it's so quiet and disappointing.

A couple people I have spoke to said Borla, but with no explanation why. Just hope I can find something to listen to as I am hoping to get something sooner rather than later.

Thank you everyone for your input.

Spend a few minutes on youtube and you can hear all of them 10 times over. Borla is the king of deeper badass sound. It was my number one pick. But price and convenience brought me to the corsa. They were my second pick. After getting them on that changed I think. They sound super sexy now with just the axleback. And it gets a bit better and louder even with headers etc. Zero regrets here. And if you haven't heard....there is NO drone lol.

I have listened to a lot of videos on YouTube but they obviously aren't accurate and with some you don't know what other mods were done.

Some people say the PRT is too loud and then I read it's quiet compared to the Bullet etc so I guess you really don't know anything till you hear it in person, and really on your own car. Being the PRT is designed for an Auto it may be the best way to go.

Any leads on where I can find a B&B PRT?

There is a local Billy Boat dealer nearby.

Hi Graham,

I have heard mixed reviews about them. I decided to give them a call out of curiosity and well the guy told me exhaust and headers will gain me an extra 100hp. I am also skeptical about the install time, apparently 10 hours.

I don't believe those numbers and think most would agree from what I have read. Otherwise I would be dump the money in for an extra 100hp!

If you do a lot of highway running, you might want to go for a long ride in a car with the louder exhaust of your choice. I found from my experience over the years, that it can get old pretty quickly when out on the open road. Back in '69 a friend put Corvette side exhaust on his COPO 427 Chevelle. It lasted perhaps two months before he sold it all to a guy with a 427 Corvette. We do a fair bit of open road driving so loud exhaust has never been on our radar.

I will be going down to the Okanagan and back a lot, and that scares me. I do want it to be loud and crazy, but I am worried about highway driving with roof off. To an extent I want to go Bullets because they are supposed to be too loud and I want to see how loud that is since it all is subjective. A loud(er) exhaust is my only for sure mod so I want to do it once and do it right. I may just wait I hear a real life example or two or just get the bullets IF they sound good with an Auto, otherwise PRT since it is designed for an auto.

Thank you for your input.

Good Luck C604Van. Just a suggestion but there may be some members out there that have some of their own sound recordings of their rides that might send you a sound clip and description of their car and system. Wish I had done it when I still had my C6 and the Corsa Sport. Keith is correct. Extreme exhaust systems put a smile on your face right until you are in cruise control on the highway and wishing you hadn't gone so extreme or at least went with a system that doesn't drone. Billy Boat website says up to 18 hp gain for the Bullet... that sounds a bit optimistic but what do I know. They also do not mention a no drone in any of their systems until you get to the PRT. Be careful if you're on a budget because a used exhaust (especially one that drones on the road) is worth less than half of what you paid if you turn around and sell it for any reason.
