I have been waiting for Infotainment to offer an upgrade for my 2015 GMC Sierra to include CarPlay
that is on our 2016 (&2017) Corvettes. Well I found it today and discovered that Corvettes can be
Upgraded as well. So for those that are thrilled with their existing 2014-2015 C7 and would just like a little of
what came in 2016, it's here for your "wish list" ...
It might also be possible to upgrade a non-equipped vehicle with an infotainment system :Shrug2:

For those who are "Handy" with tools, it might be a Self-Install project :greedy:  (it will be for my truck)
There is a link to find a local supplier/installer on the website - however there are few choices at the moment.
I think one could phone their GM Dealer and ask if they can do it as it is plug & play and
swap out & in parts (it's just a matter of getting access to them)

Now YYSSW, some may not care about this ... so please know that I'm not advocating it for anyone.
It's not cheap ... I find it is less money though that strikes one of my reasons off my list
from trading my truck in ... now that the 2019 GMC's are here (nice trucks).
So for those who want to check it out ... here's the link :)

I actually ordered all the parts individually off Ebay this week. Total was about $550 CND after shipping and taxes, much better than $1400 USD plus shipping and taxes from Infotainment. My brother is a GM tech so I will be having him program the modules when they arrive, obviously he'll have access to all the GM software. To my understanding all that needs to be done during the programing is your original VIN is entered to allow the modules to communicate with the car then when the software upgrade is requested a 2016+ VIN of a C7 with the same trim level (in my case 3LT) is entered. These are the parts numbers which I ordered.

84028492 - IO6 HMI
23402905 - IO6 XM receiver
13509942 - USB port

IO6 is for those with factory nav or wish to add factory nav. If you would rather just use Apple Carplay for your nav then IO5 modules would work which you can find for significantly cheaper. The parts are pretty much universal across all GM products so if you go the same route I did there's no need to get hung up on if the parts didn't come from a Corvette. Just make sure the part numbers cross reference.

I'll post how the install goes when the Corvette comes out of hibernation.

Anyone with a GM MDI can program the modules. ***edit**** apparently I can't attach links to the product

You would need to purchase the license from AC Delco for your VIN and the VIN of a 2016+ C7 if you were doing this yourself.

Very interested Maxballz. Please keep us informed with pictures and information on how the install and programming goes. I too wish to upgrade my 2015 with car play. I also found a module from a different supplier that can add video inputs to your infotainment system. I am unable to remember the name at the moment. Do you know if they may work in conjunction with each other? I wiah to add a couple of front curb cameras also.

I'm not really sure about the video inputs. I never looked into installing front curb cameras.

MVI is the other company who sells the Carplay upgrade. They can also enable video while in motion through the USB port.

I have been in contact with another supplier in the past (might be the one above). When discussing my GMC Sierra,
it was mentioned that I might not have all the steering wheel functions when using CarPlay. Honestly, I was not
anticipating that I may have functionality loss with any of my factory controls ... and so my thoughts about doing
this upgrade have been shelved. Love the idea of buying for less on eBay but I won't be able to program it.

So, I decided to call infotainment this morning and they have responded with not being aware of any issues
with factory installed options with their equipment (10 years). They offered phone support during my self-install.
They also have followed up my inquiry with an email of everything they want me to know before I order it (nice).

Oh the drama ..... ..... and my :greedy: risk ... more to come as I decide on this ...

... oh yes , by phoning them, they provided a discounted quote for me in the email too :joyful:

A pretty good install video to give one an idea of self-install. :greedy:
I would like @turbozig to demonstrate a tool ... as ...
I don't think he'd be as free with that screwdriver with the access and removal of trim pieces during the antenna install :nailbiting:

... also curious why one would not velcro or double-side tape the antenna down ... otherwise a dash rattle ? :Banghead:

I know I would otherwise have a self-inflicted war-wound using a screwdriver to access and remove the visor
the way it was done in the video ... :blackeye:

Oh I thought they were for Carbon Fibre only on my Ray 😂.Actually thinking about it, although they are Blue in colour, I don’t think Ziggy will let me use my new tools on his car 😂
I will definitely will be on my Sierra as part of the dash, passenger a-pillar and screen bezel has to be removed 😁👍🏻

The big thing that has had me sitting on the fence for a while that keeps me from upgrading my 2015 Sierra is that there has not been an “all-in-one” supply and install solution .... yet 😁. I read statements that relate to “programmed by others” that then has me thinking the supplier will blame the installer if things don’t go smoothly and vise-versa. Been there and done that with an alarm system add-on to my 1995 Sierra. I’ve inquired with a couple of dealerships for installing my parts, only having me being asked “so how long do you plan to keep your vehicle anyway”? (In other words ... we have brand new trucks in the lot with it ... 🙄)

... and so, although I remain hesitant, I am becoming more encouraged with the idea of a pre-programmed (to my VIN) purchase and do the plug-and-play install myself ...

... long story ... long ... 😁 ... the need to find a programmer before the install would strike the eBay opportunity from something I would consider ... (just my opinion)

I have exactly the same hesitation.
And Corvette specialists are very rare in France.
I don't think they would agree to program a box they didn't sell.:Nono1:

Have been also looking at upgrading my info system on my 2015 2LT with nav/carplay, but yes finding a programmer for the cheaper eBay opportunity could prove difficult. I doubt the dealer service centre would be willing to do this, but never really asked. Like you paying the extra $$$ for a pre-programmed purchase is very encouraging, just have to convince myself and the BOSS it's worth it.

I think it would be cool to have apple carplay, but since I’ve never had it I don’t miss it. I just Bluetooth my phone and when I’m driving I just ignore calls and txt mssgs cuz they interrupt my quality me driving time lol. Maybe if I had a daily winter driver that I cared about lol......

Last year, I purchased the Nav only upgrade from Infotainment. Basically I wanted Corsa exhaust (did not have the performance exhaust option) and my wife wanted Nav. The GPS antenna was the easiest part of the install at maybe 10 minutes. Removing the old module was a challenge. First you have to understand where the tabs are located. I found an image of the actual module tray which helped a lot. Although in my case, I was able to release the module, I was not able to fully remove the module. While large hands do not help, in my case, our car had aftermarket mirrors installed by the previous owner. The lighting for the mirror was tapped to a wire in a very large wire loom, in front of the module. I was not going to put undo pressure on the loom, so took it to the dealer. There was a two hour minimum for the mobile GM tech to come to the dealer and complete.

As mentioned in their advertising, you just have to be careful of any vehicle software installation, that could revert the module to non-GPS. They will do one reset of your vehicle VIN without cost. Subsequent ones will requirement payment of a flat fee.

I am happy and my wife is happy. These upgrades are not cheap, but if it is something you really want, it is an option.

Realizing that with many things, one expects to get what one pays for. In the process,
due diligence is often necessary in order to minimize a feeling of being ripped-off.
The challenge of finding a reliable supplier and the easiest installation method has been
a real challenge for this upgrade ... hence this thread.

No different to options on a vehicle when buying it new, justifying the decision whether to upgrade,
or why not, is often rather easy to do ...
I actually never wanted CarPlay - back in 2015 (lol) ... until now when 3 of 5 vehicles in my stable came with it.
Had it running (when with cell service) every kilometer in :canada:and every mile in :Salute2: for the
2018 Meet in the Middle / GTTS Road Return and for the 2018 Cold Lake Air Show Cruise ...
My Business & Personal crap kept running and CarPlay came in handy for taking care of one rather annoying
road "emergency" in North Dakota where pulling over to go hands-on with my phone might not have been a great option.

I think I know that "emergency" you were speaking of. Possibly involved a large 4x4 eratic redneck?
