Escort IX versus Escort 360 radar detector

Its Alberta the last bastion of free thought in Canada. A radar detector is merely a device that captures radio waves at certain frequencies. Dont need or want the nanny state. And don't get me started on helmet laws.
That is why I rode south of the 49th as much as possible. Besides the smooth roads of course. Had friends in the Dakotas that we rode with. One time we got to Grand Forks and did not want to pack our helmets anywhere. They take up too much room. So I put them in a locker at a Bus Station. Told the guy if we never come back for them, we should have been wearing them. I agree that wearing a helmet or not should be my choice. Is it smart to ride without a helmet. Not really, but it is great. Lock my hat on and go. And my wife noticed that windy days were not so hard on her neck. Helmets catch a lot of wind. But yes we were rolling the dice. And having said all that, my wife's daughter and son in law hit a deer 18 months ago. They are still healing, but without helmets, they would have been dead. So there is that too.

The best price I have found so far is $900+tx at Vision's for the 360C. Anyone else have a better price?

@turbozig Brian and I have the Radenso Pro M. Have read several comparisons on it against the escorts. Something to read as it rivals them in many ways and some review rate it higher because it is smaller, therefore easier to tuck up around the mirror.

Someone I know was shown what the RCMP was/is using in Alberta.
i’m just a messenger on this reply that might imply that radar detectors are a crap shoot regardless what one has/pays ...
anybody’s choice to use one

and this friend of mine has his passport max to offer to anyone who wants it for $250 (would need a database update I am guessing).

An earlier post of mine infers the same thing. However when in traffic with a car or two in front of you, the instant on radar aimed at someone in front of you, will be picked up by your radar. Alone on the highway, the instant on will have a greater chance of nailing you.

I will not rely on the unit, just an extra tool to use along with common sense and experience.

As stated in a few posts, radar detectors work, but to a certain extent only. As to wether or not to pay for the LIDAR detector function, this would be throwing money out of the window. A LIDAR is a kind of laser beam, so it stays within a reduced diameter even at a distance, compared to a radar which radio waves are spreading out everywhere in front of the unit. If your LIDAR detector screams, you already got clocked.
