I have been looking at purchasing a radar detector for quite some time now. After looking at several different manufacturers and models, I have narrowed the choice to these two models. Can anyone that owns either of these units chime in with "real world" comments. The IX appears to be a smokin' good unit for long distance, up to 10km on the open highway, which fit's my bill nicely as I do most of my Vette driving on the open roads. The 360 sounds like an excellent overall model, but at double the price. Does it have as good long range and what are the advantages, other than the front, back and side detection? They both seem to use the Escort app w/database. Anyone with experience on either unit please post your comments with pros and cons.

Does the IX have laser detection? Is it wifi capable?

As you know I run a Max 360c. Superb accuracy, great long range, better filters than the other brands (important downtown and by airports), and easy to use and set up. Automatic updates and built in GPS as well. A minor matter but the windshield mount is excellent.

I should add that radar detectors are not fool proof. The detector will pick up radar when the popo turns it on. If you are all alone on the highway, and not paying attention, an approaching radar unit will wait and then nail you at the last second. Your detector will pick it up but at that point it is a ticket detector. K and Ka bands are used by the RCMP, City, and Sherriffs on the highway. X-band is not used in Canada but is used in the states. Laser units must be stationary so typically not an issue on the highway. Total protection would require a jammer. $Cha Ching.

The IXC has X, K, Ka and laser detection, database, gps but no real time wifi by the looks of it.

Lidar and Dragon Eye are used a lot in Calgary and Edmonton . If you're going to buy one, make sure it works for those as well.

Dragon fire is a laser lidar. The Escort max 360c and the IX will pick it up. But it won’t matter. If your detector picks up laser it’s too late. The only “guarantee” with laser is a jammer. Entry level installed around $1500.

I don’t. The data base is heavily American. Not particularly useful in rural Alberta. The software updates are sent without charge.

I have used it a few times. It’s a cool feature. It will hook up to your smartphone and allow you to pair your phone to the detector. With the database your phone will give you live reported radar sites.

I was thinking of doing the same and had just emailed an installer in North Vancouver: Escort iX Amazon $419.00. Can't go wrong with a Passport model, I do not think. Up to $800.00 depending on the model -options you are looking for Ziggy. I would be interested in which model you choose. These devices are way more complex than when I owned a Passport 8500 many, many years ago. Cheers.

Yes. Detectors and jammers.
I just checked an RCMP Twitter page where they are telling everyone in MB that they are illegal. $298 fine and confiscated. They said "Just slow down. It's free". Catchy slogan. Another one of their slogans at least in this province is "Speed kills". They are really serious about it. I try to save to Fast and Furious stuff I do in my car to the less travelled roads out here in the country. Not the best pavement is the only problem. But if I ever get caught they are gonna be really mad. No sense of humour for speeders. I find it surprising that every province gets to set their own rules regarding detectors and jammers and at least one province went against the grain. I rode motorcycles for 40 years and all of Canada was on the same helmet page. Thought it would be the same with radar detectors and jammers as well. It's interesting that one is allowed to legally purchase something so that he can try to break the law more successfully. AB is a good sport.

BC, AB & SASK. only which makes me think: If I pay $1000.00 for device and installation and our socialist government changes the law? I guess a $1000.00 if it saves a few tickets, its worth it?

Its Alberta the last bastion of free thought in Canada. A radar detector is merely a device that captures radio waves at certain frequencies. Dont need or want the nanny state. And don't get me started on helmet laws.
