Elections Canada - Please Read post Number 1

Anyone watch the debate last night. I found it quite interesting. I thought Blanchet, even though he gives two shits about any part of Canada except Quebec, did a good job and came across as a smart leader.
I also thought Poilievre made a lot of sense and has some good platform promises to address Canada's problems. My only shortfall was him using every opportunity to toss in "the last 10 years of Liberals" in everything he said. I agree with him but he only had to say it 20 or 30 times... lol...
Carney, I didn't lean to as much as PP. He has lots of very superficial things he is promising that make sense, but very little depth and most are slightly modified, but taken directly out of PP's playbook. . (and I still think he looks sneaky).
And down to Jagmeat. I don't think he did himself any favors by constantly butting in and yapping loudly over every other leader's presentation and time slot. I think he's very angry because he finally realizes that he squandered a great opportunity last fall and will be out of a job after the election. And I can't believe the moderator put up with that. Do they not have control over the participants and their microphones? I would have been pleased to see anyone there walk over, knock off his pink turban, and tell him to SHUT-THE-FK-UP.

Two sides to every coin
I'd prefer a discussion/review of the stated policies rather than an irrelevant take down of everything that one of the candidates says
Did you read the article ? He makes some very valid points. Right leaning or not. Facts tend to speak for themselves. How many times have you seen “ stated policies/ promises “ acted on ? Except for eliminating “ first past the post “ , ….oh wait , definitely not that one , lol .

it well before election time that PP is a small "t" trump.
Parroted pretty well everything that DJT wants.
Even his latest "three strikes and your out" is a couple of years old from the US.
His saying he will have some 35K skilled trade workers in 10 years is a laugh, no matter who would say it.
As pasted previously here, the Libs were the only ones to balance the budget. Harper actually outdid everyone since then on a budget deficit.
Don't say its only the Libs who are able to do it, only say that they are the only ones who did it.

Harper balanced the budget in 2006 and 2007, 2008 hit and then it was in a deficit until 2014 when he had a very small surplus . JT and his crew were able to double it in their time in power and now we pay more in debt payments than health outlays to the provinces. Whoever gets in will have to make some tough choices and cuts to try to right the fiscal mess. Sunny ways and hoping that it will balance itself do not make it happen.

Deficits has its advantages. That is why Justin and Pierre did it. In fact we all run a deficit at some time in our lives. I no longer do, but did it most of my adult life. Don't use that as some sort of political error. It's a political tactic. At some time you have to reverse it of course. Just as I did.

Well sure, not a problem. Our national debt has increased more in the last 10 years than the previous 140 years combined. Hmmm…oh right, we still have COVID to blame , lol.

Did you read my post or do you just like hearing yourself speak! LOL
A deficit increases debt! DUH!!

I got that. Believe it or not…. ;) But there is also the fact that not all debt is reasonable or necessary. But of course , commerce would grind to a halt without it . A deficit is simply the accumulation of more debt. Same pig just different lipstick.

The one thing neither leader will fess up to is how are they going to pay for all thier promises. It is one thing to say what you you intend to do but where are the numbers, cold hard numbers. An increase in trades people means immigration, young people are not heading into the trades anymore, they prefer tech so what will spending here accomplish. I don't think cuts to foreign aid will pay for an income tax cut. The liberals won't make enough from the tarrifs to support the business community or the affected workers, more debt. Either way, both parties have little interest in reducing spending is what I take from the debates. They are both like children with arms up yelling 'pick me, pick me', nothing more.

8 billion a year would go a long ways at home....

I'm sure this is typical with election campaigns but I find it funny that Harper makes a commercial stating that Carney hasn't outlined his economic strategy (Which he has) and that PP has (which he hasn't). It's tomorrow. Timing is everything and someone got it wrong. C'mon guys fire someone! LOL

Poll for Global today shows a 3 point spread which is within the margin of error . Going to be interesting but likely a Liberal minority. Then again , lol.
