drone purchase for Xmas

It’s way better than the one I have Jeff. Beware of the LiPo batteries though. Really fragile with charging and expensive as Heck. I had these batteries in a helicopter a few years ago ago and it was the only thing I didn’t like.
Maybe theses batteries are better now though.

Have fun.

I've had lipos in various RC cars and buggies. They can be potentially dangerous if not charged correctly however any decent modern charger designed to charge lithium poly will work. Just don't use junk chargers and make sure they have a safety cutoff, trickle and overheat protection. Almost all do now.

Nothing to fear from lipo they are light years ahead of NiMH and much lighter so perfect for drones. If they can survive an off road buggy getting flipped hundreds of times a day courtesy of my son they will be just fine in a drone.

Clearly these batteries or likely the chargers have improved dramatically. Good news.
BTW I got that helicopter from the same place Jeff is looking at for the drone.
These guys know the adult toys well and have an amazing amount of parts for all the stuff they sell and we wreck. (Helicopter... fun but expensive learning to fly it).

is this one OK, got a couple little 60 dollar drones and want a better one for taking pictures and stuff not rally into drones as just starting,

this one is 800 in the store plus tax

thoughts Jeffer

Looks like a lot of fun Jeff, just make sure it doesn't get too close to the Vette's. ;)

thought Dennis might comment on whether this is an ok drone for pictures and general flying for a newbie after some practice with junk drones or beginner drones. Jeff

What about me??? You seen me fly them!

I have hear the 6 arm one is better - this is a quad ( 4 ) hexi (6) is more stable.

The worst thing on this one is if you do crash it ( hopefully not into any Corvettes ) it is not easy to fix ( get parts )

A crazy wind ( 50-70 km hr one ) took mine towards the side of a mountain at Abraham Lake and it was fixed and flies fine again. This one might be destin for the dumpster if you crash it.

My 2 cents.

I cant see your pics but here is my 2 cents.

I have an AR Drone 2.0. Work good if it isn't windy. No gimbal, camera is mediocre, range sucks. It sure is fun to play with though. It runs around $400.

I have two good friends who each have a phantom 4 ($1800). Obviously no comparison but it is a monster. Will fly in wind, has gimbal, takes great pics and vid, range is spectacular (up to 6km!). It is awesome, but pricey

If I was looking for one specifically for picture taking (not just flying around) I would absolutely get one with a gimbal. Range would also be very important.

I am no expert but I like to play!

I knew you would add to the discussion once you got back on and saw comments I can always count on you for help for the uninitiated Jeff

Careful where you land it Jeff. Reminds me of the 2013, just after xmas day. Dad and his father rang our doorbell, asked if they could go in our backyard and recover his son's drone they crashed the day before. LOL. Gone are the days of asking to go into the backyard to get the lost soccer or baseball.
