Distracted driving laws across Canada

Losing points will definitely catch the attention of insurance companies. Hit in the wallet hard enough will stop them. The fines and insurance increases are generally just high enough that they sting and everyone makes money from it. They don't want the idiots off the roads entirely because that would be killing the golden goose. The penalties have to be BIG if there are to be real results in making the roads safer. The money trail usually wins and safety is secondary. Am I cynical? Just a little.

b76 agree somewhat with part of your statement above however, not all of it. Thats my big beef the target is not always the one getting hit. They hit the masses and the target group is the least affected cause their not going to quit anyway cause the penalty is not great enough. I know many people who continue to drive drunk and I don't mean .05...........they have hurt people while driving drunk lost their license for 3 or more years ect. Guess what most of them still keep driving. Guess what going from .08 to .05 law had no affect on them whatsoever. Speaking with one person they said the only thing that would make them stop "possibly" would be if they knew they would be whipped in public. "Our laws are not strict enough for people like us". Guess what it doesn't take much to put you at .05 depending on a number of variables............so great our law has made a whole bunch more people drunks........ behind wheels in many cases. But has it made the hiway any safer?

Good thing the Cops aren't distracted by all the electronic equipment in their cruisers. Like Radar units, radar detector detectors, two way radio, cellphone, on board Laptop, running plate numbers while driving. Eating some Timmies... etc.etc.

Don, you forget they are trained to drive and multi task...lol.. Ya right...lol...

an off duty cop here in this area killed a woman. he was looking at his kid's video game while going through a stop sign. he got away with it too.

Just using some controls of today's car might draw a lot of your attention like switching the touch screen display in the dash from audio control to climate control then lower temperature, change fan speed, get your eyes back on the road and you will be surprise how many things had changes since you took your eyes from the road just to set 2 basic functions. At 100 km/hr we move about 91 feet/second, 110 feet/second at 120 km/hr.
In Miami there is a Tesla boutique where you can sit in the car and play whit all controls, every controls are on a touch screen display about the size of 2 ipad, I was amaze how it's really taking a lot of you attention to make a simple task (still a really nice car)

Stephane BTW I should of stay one more week over there
