Welcome to the club. Just FYI, I bought my C6 for 29,000. Manual, HUD, nav, etc last year, but it had 90k on it. It's been a cream puff so far though..........

I feel lucky, as mine is a 2005. No problems on the rear-end yet......

Sounds like the differential problems are with stick shift cars, rough usage and wheel hop.
