COVID-19 & C8 price

While there are differing viewpoints about the overall impact of COVID-19, it is a new virus and is not like the typical annual influenza. I had the opportunity to study pandemic planning in 2005/6 and work with the Public Health Agency of Canada - it scared the crap out of me. In January I warned my family and friends to prepare for a worst case scenario; most laughed it off. The main thing to keep in mind with a new virus is the complete lack of immunity across the entire world population. COVID-19 seems to affect people in different ways but the death rate is much higher than typical influenza; 1.5 to 3.5% of all COVID-19 cases will result in death, versus .014 for the annual influenza across North America. The only way to avoid contracting COVID-19 is by avoiding any exposure to it. Governments have given us directives but over the long term and until there is a vaccine, try to avoid exposure. PLEASE.

That is what some people don't understand. One guy in the US forum went to his friends house yesterday. He doesn't seem to understand that he could be a carrier and could have just risked his friends life or he could now be infected and could risk the life of his wife and kids. This same guy picked up his car at the museum and drove through many states over a week where he could easily have picked it up or have it and left a trail of dead behind him. I just don't understand some people.
More than likely a family member infected their relative in one of the old age homes and didn't / don't understand or realize it.
It just doesn't make any sense why people can be so flippant with other lives.

Unfortunately this is happening all over.... Sad...

Unfortunately, Trump was downplaying COVID for precious weeks and even as New York was in the throws of panic-fueled hospital bed and equipment shortages, until he was finally convinced otherwise by his health advisors and did his 180 degree turn. So likely many Republicans who blissfully follow his advice, were slow to react and perhaps still are. Thankfully some States ignored his comments and set their own standards, so they'll likely do better. However I fear the US has started to pay a heavy price for this delay and will continue to do so over the next few months. It will be really interesting to see how history views this pandemic and everyone's response to it, in 10+ years time.

Hmmm ...I will avoid religion and politics discussion with my wife and on any of the forums I enjoy.
I agree, but this isn't really political. It's more a fact. I don't like Ford, but I do respect what he has done in this for Ontario. Just as an example. My disliking Ford is politics, but liking his efforts against the virus is not.

my thoughts exactly

Supply and demand are out of balance. Demand far exceeds supply at this time so prices over MSRP are common, assuming any available units. When production re-starts I believe prices will normalize. COVID 19 is responsible for the current market blip.

Just mt $0.02!

@ian1975 can people back out of their order if they are at 3000 status like I am? Not that I am backing out but would people lose their deposit if they did? I already mostly paid for my car last year. So glad I did because the investment I took it out from did a huge nose dive with this pandemic. My other observation is that the Feds kept putting us deeper in debt before this even hit and these were relatively good times to bring the debt under control. But the government never thinks bad times will hit and like to throw money away while raising taxes to fund their habit.

No government could foresee the pandemic, but back on topic. To cancel your order is totally up to the discretion of the dealer. If he / she sees fit they can take your deposit if it was non refundable in the Purchase agreement. I would think a dealer might jump at the chance since it would then be their car and could sell it over MSRP if the so wished. If it was refundable then I don't see why you can't back out.

I'll add my $0.02 here.

We don't see there being many if any in-stock C8 Corvettes until 2022 at the earliest. We just received our first deposit for a 2021 Corvette. When there are no in-stock vehicles available, the supply is higher than the demand. There is no need to discount at that point.

GM might offer some incentives before dealerships start discounting the Corvette.

Once a vehicle hits Event 3000 in Order Workbench, it cannot be cancelled. The vehicle will be built and delivered to the dealership regardless of whether or not you take it. If you have an agreement with your dealership that the deposit is not refundable, then you'll need to hope they will be forgiving enough to give you your money back.

Actually the US government had LOTS of warning that a pandemic like this was inevitable and that they should prepare. Don't know about the Canadian government, but I'm sure the information was universal across national governments.

You are right of course. Sars should have been enough warning for everyone. But like most I say, "Naw, it will never happen to me" ;)

Not just SARS, but also Ebola (still ongoing from 2018), Zika in 2015, N1H1 (swine flu) in 2009. the list is actually pretty long. The thing that has made COVID-19 so dangerous is it is highly contagious, unlike any virus we've had in the last 50+ years.

Which just shows to go you that it's not human nature to plan for disaster. I planned on getting a C8 in May and that ain't gonna happen. I didn't plan on leaving it in the bank collecting dust.

Good to know. Thats what I thought about 3000 status it was locked in. Even if someone bailed the dealership would have no problem selling it at probably a much higher price too. I ordered the LT3 convertible with pretty much every option on it so it will be as scarce as hens teeth in these times. I could probably sell it myself at a profit. If I ever get it. LOL.

Kerry,
Kevin( aka Crybaby ) just got his large deposit back on a 3LT Vert that was at Status 3000 FYI

I don`t want my deposit back ! I`m at 3000 and will wait and hope GM does not add in a 2021 price change.
Neither do I, but I'd be mad if they forced me to take a 2021 AND raised the price. I'd still buy it, but I'd be mad.
I still think they will build all 3000 cars as 2020's. The fine print on my sales agreement says the agreement is void if they can't provide me a 2020, but GM is risking losing the money if they did. Kentucky has still not reached anywhere near their peak with the virus, but I can't see GM not starting back up by June at the latest. They are supposedly losing millions per day, but I'd be more worried about parts suppliers going under.
