Collapse at National Corvette Museum sends cars into sinkhole

Just incredible, I wonder if there was any indication that something was wrong. Any structural problems before. Something must have been noticed.

As a side note, we talked about other web sites today at our 705 get together today. Can you believe that some people think this is funny and a good thing? There is some strange people out there, the ones your mother warned you about. I am disgusted by some of the comments.

Crazy news!

I am glad I check before posting these notes, haha. I sure hope some of these are salvageable.

My retired friends seem to get first to anything newsworthy relating to corvettes. With a four-day old baby it's a little hard to get to anything fast.......

Haha, let's see how fast this thread gets hijacked now!!!!

i wonder how stable the ground is, in order to move the remaining cars out of the building. i imagine there is great concern about triggering further collapse.

Drugs do funny things to people....:( -- Anyone laughs at stuff like that is either stupid, crazy or on drugs......

From what I heard when I was there with my brother, the area is prone to sinkholes........further making the area more susceptible to the problem is excessive precipitation.

Sounds like they're on some pretty shaky ground down there in BG.

Quite the event and not very funny to people like you and me.

Money can fix lots of things but doesn't replace the fact that the car is untouched, pretty sad. It's a shame for all these peoples who take good care of these rare cars. I never visit the museum yet but it's on my wish list.:ack: :(

Just heard on the CBC National and I was absolutely stunned! We were there in Oct. and I took some photos of some of the cars in the dome at that time. I checked my photos and sure enough I had taken a picture of the ZR-1 Blue Devil:

I took a shot of the center of the dome not realizing I got the front of what I think is the '92 1 millionth Corvette:

Thankfully the 3 Lingenfelder vettes on loan (my main interest) were long gone, but here you can see in the background the 84 Pace Car:

Behind the 1100 HP C6 TT Z06 Lingenfelder you see the white 1.5 millionth 2009 convertible and some other cars which I think might have fallen.

All gone! Thankfully it didn't happen during open museum hours.

As I am sure all of you have noticed, it appears the Blue Devil and '62 should not have a lot of damage, the '93 ZR1 Spyder that is just poking out of the dirt and other Corvettes that are missing....That appears to be a different story. What a crazy looking sink hole. Looking forward to the retrieval of the cars!

There is going to be a special report on CNN at 7pm regarding the collapse at Bowling Green tonight

every picture I see this car looks like it is jetstream blue.

I thought Blue Devil was a 1 off Le Mans blue ( 2006-07 color ) car.

I get wondering every picture I see.

Yes lots of good videos -- thanks Brian.

This one from a small helicopter enables views from down in the sinkhole.

That's quite a cavity that developed with many tons of earth and rocks having moved and sunk.

Great to see them recover the cars -- it hurts to see the damage but it's repairable. The poor 40th was scuffed up quite a lot and hard to look at.

Nice to see the ZR-1 blue devil started -- seemed fine. (tho scratched somewhat) -- the puddle at the end didn't look good tho.

Here's the link to the chopper vid:
