The P51 is a thing of beauty, but, if you think a C8 is pricey to own and operate.....

Couple of million to buy
Couple of 100000 for maintence Merlin needs a rebuild every 250hrs combat 500 peacetime that's operating at a 1/3rd throttle and no more than 4.5g
$50000 plus for insurance
$200000 non for flying experience ppl 50 hours followed by conversion to a another 50 to tail dragger prefably a Harvard that's doing everything perfectly and would still make you a rookie 150 is the bare minimum.
Ideally you'd get 1000 hrs plus because
P51 is a supercar compared to a Cessna
$400 per hour on fuel
