Calgary Snow….

48 hours later and still no reply on the original house offer. Sheesh what takes so long and the Z06 and convertible are getting whiter by the hour!

Struggled to get my mower started and in storage yesterday. Have to deal with reality finally, no more cutting grass this year. Wouldn't fire even once. So picked up some ether. Removed the air cleaner and yep, it was flooded. So cranked it over, gave a little spray and it fired up! Pushed in the choke and it stopped. Repeated the process and it backfired and the area caught on fire!! Don't want to douse it with snow as it would have gone directly into the cylinder and it went out in a few seconds. Repeated ethering and it fired up, slowly pushed the choke in and it ran fine. Let it warm up as i was expecting it might be hard to get through snow (something JD probably never tested for I'm sure) but it actually went through the snow much better than I expected and is now out of the weather for the next 6 months.

Oh ya. Having learned my lesson from my marriage, as my gf and I were living together and looking at co-buying a house, got a proper cohabitation agreement drawn up by lawyers this time as opposed to my self drawn up one (used the example in a Canadian book on marriage contracts too).

Much less than I expected as we got the bills today, mine was just over $600, hers was just over $700. Considering what the settlement from my divorce cost me, including legal fees for that farce, less than 0.5% this time around. The cheapest piece of mind can ever cost I figure!!

And for those who thinks cohabitation/marriage agreements/contracts are exploitive, this one gives us identical protection from each other..................same for me, same for her. Nice to have actual/real/true equality in the eyes of the law. While I can't speak for my gf, I'll be sleeping much better from now on.

Cheers,

Garry

No snow here Garry. Had rained a bit last night but stayed pretty clear today. No snow in the forecast and 5's and 6's for tomorrow and Saturday.
hahaha.... you gotta be careful with that starter fluid on the gas jobs.... I have had the odd carb fire myself at times....

Good luck on the house. Still rootin' for ya...

Good morning Eric, Bill,

Wow. 8 bu/ac ac. Now that is sad especially after reseeding. I've had 10 bu/ac canola before and it is heart breaking. The crops here in 2016 were actually some of the best overall I've ever seen. My peas, for example, were my best ever, ever with the combining difficulties and what I couldn't get off the ground they still yielded over 50 and I have some good manager neighbours who were only getting 40. So who knows what the wheat and canola would have yielded. But no use crying over spilt milk. Wait for the crop insurance payment and then see what I can recover in the spring. Spring worries me a lot. I've two weeks or more of combining to do and with a late fall that could seriously delay seeding in 2017................

Ya, I sort of was telling myself with all that fuel sitting there that I should be careful. I was lucky that it wasn't worse! It is like when I am draining the ethanol out of the Z06 (which I still have yet to do too) I am terrified of a fire starting every time.

Again 5 and 8 above in 5 or 6 days, I hate when they tease me like this.

Still no reply from the real estate agent. Three days now, the longest yet. Time to piss or get off the pot.

Cheers,

Garry

Tell the real estate agent that as of noon today you are withdrawing your offer. Maybe they are playing yours against another offer.

Good suggestion Murray. I would give the realtor to the end of the day though. Most realtors in Alberta these days don't get out of bed before noon....

And by the way.... I spoke too soon. Opened the door to take Quinn out for her walk and morning dump and it is snowing here... grrrrrr..... I'm not sure at what point the weatherman decided it wasn't going to be sunny and 9 today but now, surprisingly enough he is calling for snow. Still saying the weekend through all next week will be nice though....

Finally a reply.

10K apart now, so I offered to split the difference, hope to hear soon...................

Chinook forecast coming up, 5 days of +8 or better. Not sure that will help with combining though, the soil is just so saturated I'm not sure it would be trafficable. But you never know.

Cheers,

Garry

Good luck Garry.

No snow waaaay over here. Actually they are calling for low teens all week! Which makes sense because I put my car away last week. But, I don't really care. I'd say let it snow, let it snow, let it snow, but I don't have my truck to play in the snow and have fun with since buying the wife a suburban. So now I just tuck my balls back into her purse and drive her old no fun economy car..... it makes me feel really good inside. :p

Plus I won't wish for snow so hopefully Garry and others can pull the crop off.

Yup.... Forecast is good here....Combines will be working... doubt there will be much dust though.... but at least some canola will reach the bins.... Good luck Garry on both the farm and the house offer....

Riley.... Permission to use that phrase please.... "So now I just tuck my balls back into her purse"... too funny!

Good morning,

So as usual still no reply. I'm not sure why such a long period of time to reflect on the offer is required. Yes or no? Ought to be simple. Not sure if this is some sort of real estate agent ploy or not. Delay things to make me more frustrated and willing to compromise to close it without further delays................

6 to 7 days of above 0 starting today. Winds 20 to 40 km tomorrow. Still I wish I could be feeling more optimistic. If you saw the water lying in the fields here it is going to require a lot of heat to make it trafficable. Still the chance to sneak in and take off the four canola fields would be most welcome. Combines will be ready to roll so I just have to wait and see how it unfolds.

Hopefully others with crop out will have some success too. I'll be curious tomorrow to see if yet another day in the forecast appears positive!

Cheers,

Garry

A reply. You'll find this amusing I think. The real estate agent sent me an email asking me to call him. Turns out there was a mistake and that we were still 15 K apart and not 10..................so he asked if I would still make my previous offer which I did but I fear the owner is going to come back 5 higher than my current offer and I'm not sure I'm interested. Stubborn Ukrainian than I am!

And he said it might be another 3 or 4 days before I get a reply but that he is going to "work hard to convince him it is a good offer and I am firm at my offer".

There you have it. It is hard not to be PO'ed but it is what it is.............

I agree with Graham Garry. Tell the realtor to cut his take and make it work at your number. At this time of year, any commission for him is better than none. Good Luck....

And a solid week of good forecast here but I'm hesitant to be too optimistic as there's a lot of saturated land here that won't carry equipment. Hoping the best though for all the Ag producers out there.

An interesting suggestion. But as the rates are I believe 3% he could forgo his commission in full and it would not cover his error, well maybe slightly. Housing prices here are not Vancouver or Toronto after all! He claims that he realizes that the offer I've made is a fair one for the house and he will try to convince the owner of this. I wonder what story he is telling the owner??!!

I'm in the same boat. 7 day forecast now of 8 to 10 above and even lows of +1 on a few days. Could it really happen that we could be combining again? I just can't see the soil drying enough but you never know. But it will take a day or two I think just for the snow that is still here to melt to start with. Then the grain was so tough to start with a few weeks back and it hasn't dried since then so I could just imagine what a moisture test would tell us of the % moisture even if we could take a sample...................

I may have one really funny, non-car, non-harvesting story to share with you (well the divorced dad's will get a howl out of it anyway) today possibly. So I hope. I'm just waiting for confirmation from my bank...............

Cheers,

Garry

It did hit 9 in the later part of the afternoon yesterday but no winds of 20 to 40 km/hr that I saw. Still the forecast this morning says 7 more days yet...........

A message that the bank called but nothing of substance left. I sure hope they didn't make a mistake in what they told me two days ago..........
