I did something similar, "way back when", when my exhaust hanger fell off while out.
Didn't want to drag the exhaust all the way home.

Looks just like the oil change pit we used way back when.......
I think a lot of us are guilty of doing this at some point with our early cars. I certainly am.
At least it is relatively safe, especially if compared to using stepladders and milk crates to support the car.
It's not a soft close so we can shut him up faster
