The other day I found a bunch of drag racing and other pictures taken from the early 1960's. They brought back a few memories of not so much of the races but the cameras that took them. I had a Kodak Brownie camera that took 126 film, I think lots of people had them in fact Kodak, and others, made over ten million of them. I remember going to the races on Sunday, school on Monday and then head for Whitlocks Drug Store on the Queensway in West Toronto. They had a place to send your film off to get developed, they put in in a envelope gave you a tear off with a number on it and you went home and waited and sometimes waited some more to see your pictures. The anticipation was incredible.

I have no idea what happened to the most of the pictures nor the camera but I took that box camera to any races I could get close to the cars. This is what the camera looked like and one of the few pics I can find, taken of my friend Brooke DeShaw (RIP) sitting in his B/Altered roadster at St. Thomas Dragway near London, Ontario I believe in 1964.

126 was a film used in more modern cameras. The Brownies used 620.
Remember when the Instamatic came out?
Watching a picture develop in the palm of your hand!
I was in awe.....the waiting (for those who could afford it) for the drug store to develop pics was over (we didn't have one).

I usually have at least a couple at each of my antique sales but have to be careful. As cool and as old school as they are, surprisingly, they don't command more than about $10.00 out here. They look great sitting on a collectibles shelf though.
