I hope I'll be able to load up some pictures once I get better at shrinking their size - I'll need my gr's help actually since I'm pretty well dumb as a stump about these things! It was hard to get anything decent as we were so far away from the runway, safety reasons I'm sure.

Three ZR1's, modded by the exhaust sounds and a forced induction C5 Z06 making 610 hp. One was a return effort by the fellow who had the 900 hp TT 2008 Z06 who had the second fastest speed in 2010 of 336 kmph.

The weather was really poor Friday night and Saturday morning, I thought it would be cancelled but it did finally clear at about 10 am and they went ahead with things. Unsure of results yet but the Top Speed shoot-out winner seems to have been a 1993 Toyota Supra (yellow of course), making 45 pis boost (!) that is apparently capable of 400 kmph and did hit 380 kmph on the runway before he had to start braking - it is something else to see and hear to be honest. It shows how good and sound this design really is. But 1300 hp from a turbo charged 3.4 l engine is really a credit to Toyota.

But not unexpected, all three cars that were the top speed winners lost to the CF-18.

I missed the 1500 TT Gallardo's run if it did go..........oddly the Ford GT (1050 hp) and the Saleen S7 were not top speed cars either. The 1500 TT Gallardo was Zahir Rana's effort to try to beat the plane after his Enzo lost in 2010.........

There were about 6 more C6's in the parking area too.

Still with some reservations a highly recommended event, almost more for what happened to me away from the base than at the base.

Let me know if you're honestly interested and I can give you more details of my experience and thoughts of this event.

Cheers,

Garry

For the Village Idiot..............

OK, here is my problem. How the heck do I decrease the image size in kb to meet the required maximum but not end up shrinking the physical picture to the size of a playing card when it appears on the screen? Some people are posting almost full sized pictures here, how do I go about doing that with the ones I've already taken that are much larger than the maximum size that this site will allow?

Cheers,

Garry

Hey Garry, I use Mihov image resizer to downsize but there are many out there including photoshop if you have it.

Here's the link and it's free:

Miha's utilities - Mihov Freeware

scroll down to: 'Mihov Image Resizer'

---------------------------

Downsize to about 100k bytes for most sites.

If you downsize first and then post to a host like photobucket then copy and paste the image info to your post, the image will show up full size rather than a small pic one has to click on the enlarge.

Thanks fellows! I just started swathing my canola today so I'm going to be tied up for a bit but I will get some pictures posted hopefully large sized thanks to your help..........

I spent my free thinking time (swathing is sort of mind numbing) thinking about how to come up with the $3000 to enter RtB if it is held next year. Plus probably $500 plus for the required helmet!

Cheers,

Garry

hey i was there too.

I was there too guys 2006c6z06

It did suck for as far as weather conditions. They didnt have the events organized at all i thought. They didnt post top speeds everytime they raced and had everything going all over the place. In my opionion it sucked.

For Tayman1975

Yes, if you believe it I did walk by your car in the parking lot! Lets just say that my eye is tuned to seeking out yellow vehicles of any type. Thankfully they allowed us to park on the runway on Saturday instead of the grass like on Friday.

Does your budget allow you to enter next time for the experience?? I'm giving it serious thought at the moment even with this years poor experience as a spectator.

I, sadly, have to agree that the event itself was not all that great (which I will talk about later) but the point you make is correct. Why in 2010 were the top speeds posted immediately after each run and in 2012 nothing and even now I can't find any results?

I heard a number of people voicing their disappointment of the event and there certainly could be some improvements to future events.

Riley - to answer your question, no I have not looked at that image software and I will check it out with the other one that was recommended.......

Back to the swather cab for me!

Cheers,

Garry

A farming we will go............

Funny but it is really relaxing some times. While last years harvest was the most difficult, being completed 5 minutes into the 3rd blizzard we had that season, the crops were good, the best ever for some.

My 1st super car expereince was actually even a Countach that was owned by a farmer around here back in 1982...........

I always find it odd that now-a-days farmers will pay 2 or 300,000 for land (and I know in other parts of the country it is much, much more), equipment is crazy too, 400,000 for a combine, 300,000 for a tractor, swathers now 150,000 grain trucks 150,000, airdrills 350,000 and yet most of these guys would never consider getting a nice sports car, always the trucks.

Coming back from seeing so many nice cars at Race the Base was a letdown to then return to an area where Mustang's and Camero's are considered the hot cars along with 4 by 4 diesel trucks with lift kits. Sigh........

Looks like we're going to try to combine some wheat today as the next canola field is not ready to be swathed.

So did you farm as well in Ontario????

Cheers,

Garry

Wow, Garry, farming equipment is expensive ----- I can quite see with a failed crop one could be quickly behind the 8ball.
Good luck with yours, and thanks for feeding us all.

I helped out a friends dad for a while. That swather was like a time machine where it just flew by! The best times were listening to CFL Football while swathing. Great times. After that I knew I liked farming but would never want to be a farmer. Way too much stress if the crops fail with how expensive equipment is.

Yes we had a farm of 230 acres up to when I was a teenager. I cannot remember not driving something on the farm whether it was a tractor, combine or truck and first probably drove unassisted looking through the steering wheel as I can remember having to slide off of the tractor seat to step on the clutch as I couldn't reach both.
We also had approx 500 rabbits, 250 pigs, several horses a couple of dozen sheep. My dad also kept a full time job in a foundry working shifts and did lots of custom combining as well. I was fortunate to have grown up on the farm and look fondly on those days.
