Bet the last thing they did was take it all apart and sell the logs. A lot there!
 
Never tried it but I was told way back when I had a 58 VW that the standard railway gauge of 1.435 metres matched the VW tracking width and if you let 3/4 of the air out of your tires, you could drive the railway tracks... Looks like some of these vehicles were pretty close too...

Interesting, but I to do so might be problematic, 'cause if yer on the tracks with yer VW and someone yells "train".....!?!

I thought of that as well but I think with the tires still there that you'd have a chance of steering off the tracks. Maybe not so much if you were on bare rims. Now, if they yelled "train" while you were on a trestle bridge, that would definitely be problematic...

we need to get one and try it. Much less traffic than on the highways. I am sure it is not perfectly illegal or anything..
