Anyone Else Fascinated By Old Locomotives?

Another impressive trestle . Forest fire area yet the logs being hauled don’t look burnt. Hmmm

Even the wood trestle is still standing.
Maybe a photoshoped fake news pic. lol
I think this one is the real deal by the look of it. A lot of these obviously were built a long way from a sawmill so some of the early ones were constructed from trees felled at the location that they were needed. Some of course they would bring the milled timber to the site by train as the building of the line progressed. A lot of them are still standing and in still pretty solid condition even after a hundred years. Although not in service anymore. You can’t even get decent lumber to build a friggin deck these days, lol .

You can't even get a straight piece of lumber without a bunch of knots in it.

A lot of the good lumber is exported. Best you get now is usually no. 2 grade. At least they don’t charge extra for the bark left on some of it. Treated is usually pretty good but a crazy price. Although not as bad as during the Pandemic, or Panic depending on how you want to look at it. There was too much free money being handed out. Prices of lumber are back to about 2019 levels again thankfully as I am rebuilding my deck which is 16x36 x 4 high. When we priced out lumber two and a half years ago I just about dropped. Commercial 1000 board foo t prices were around $1700 . Today I believe they are back to about $375 or so.

They couldn't produce enough during the pandemic and once that was over they started shutting mills because of supposed oversupply. Go figure that one
