First thought might be a safety platform for track hands working on a live line. The second level looks really low to me, doubt it could handle any oversized freight if indeed the place is even still there.

Second look there does not appear to be a floor so probably a gallows.

Todays curiosity question... what are the triangular metal brackets extending out the side of the bridge? (Its probably my engineering background... we saw many strange things and said..."Why?")

to me they look like hangers for wires .. power and telephone line perhaps

I'm going for escape options when kids are playing on the bridge..... :Banghead:

Pic 1 ZZ Top before the paint job?
Pic 2 what we think is new? I'll guess the pic is from late 40's. The brown wood almost looks like current pressure treat, there is a vegetarian restaurant, and it appears that there are some structural problems being repaired at the base of a column. Its now 2022,
brown wood is everywhere, vegan eateries are common and the Gardner Expressway is falling apart!

The Gardner was falling apart when I lived there back in the late 80's. It's just to the point of no return now.
