There weren't many more committed to 'the right to bear arms' than Joe Scarborough, former Republican Congressman from Florida. He received the NRA’s highest ratings over four terms in Congress. But the horror in Newtown has caused Scarborough to rethink his views on gun control.

As he explains in an impassioned 10-minute monologue, he used to view the gun debate as a question of individual rights versus government control; post-Newtown, he now considers it a matter of public safety. Scarborough also takes time in his monologue to excoriate the prevalence of violent images in pop culture — in addition to decrying gun lobbyists, he also explains that “Entertainment moguls don’t have an absolute right to glorify murder.”

This has to be one of the most level-headed, non-fire-breathing, thought-provoking 10 minutes I've seen on this matter. Give it your time.

one can only hope that more people of authority and influence will take a stand as this man has. what possible reason can there be to own assault rifles and large capacity ammo clips ? how is an individuals freedom being curtailed by banning these types of weapons ? do not people in authority and legislators see the difference between massive firepower and deer hunting ? i am not a hunter myself but i understand it. this other business is beyond comprehension.
 
Gun control is a sensitive issue buckhorn 76 is not far off in his thoughts .Canadians we're able to become a little more civilized because of the English influence .Most of our roots go back to the old west and in some areas we're still there .I have friends who have substantial amount of arms and plenty of ammo .The belief is that there will be a total collapse of the Government .Politics have become super polarized and almost fanatical in cases.Any major changes will end up in the supreme court as it is a constitutional matter .

Sorry to say no one who has a AK47 will give it up and there are millions of assault weapons in the US .

Personally I haven't had time or a great desire to hunt and no problem with those who do .I do own three rifles one of which is a 12 gauge ,also a couple small caliber pistols
all are considered home protection .One might say to protect myself from others who have guns .

I believe the US Constitution is one of the best written documents of all time but our fore fathers assumed most would have common sense and morals to apply it.

Stepping aside I saw photos of those kids killed today ,they we're just so Innocent and cute ,everyone of 'em --what a waste .
 
Of course its a multifaceted problem, guns and their availability being one dimension.
And gun advocates will quote from their constitution....the right to bear arms...
What is overlooked is the fact that at the time of writing there was no police force,
[municipal/state], nor was there a standing army. So...if the local residents didn't
take action....no one else would. But now we have these armed forces, so why the
need for the general public to buy/have arms ??

Re the Constitution, I agree with the founding fathers that Americans should have the right to bear arms....the arms available in the 1770's. Muskets.

I doubt the founding fathers ever visited a gun store that sold assault rifles.

The ironic thing....the killer's mother bought the guns for her personal protection. Told everyone she knew how much she liked them and how enjoyable it was to shoot them at the gun range. Yeah.....the same guns that ended her life. The son she gave birth to. The house she called home.

nobody " needs " military style weapons. it is just something that this old noggin can't fathom. is it an expression of machismo or paranoia or what ? i imagine there are plenty of people in this country that would lust after this kind of weaponry, thank goodness it's not available.

The primary-school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, approximately 45 miles from the Colt Arms Factory, is just another one in the long line of government psyops designed to persuade the public to allow the government to take away their guns, and their means to defend themselves against the government and the banksters that the politicians really serve.

The small children murders are designed to create hysterical emotions in women to get them to demand that guns are banned. If that doesn't work they will continue with their evil agenda with worse and worse atrocities on younger children, until they get their way and disarm the people, so that they cannot fight back against government tyranny.

Newtown is the U.S.A.'s Dunblane, which was orchestrated in Scotland in 1996 by the British establishment, to whip up hysteria in order to ban all handguns from the U.K. It was a follow-up to the Hungerford Massacre in England in 1987, which was carried out by mind-controlled Michael Ryan, who then shot himself so he could not be questioned, and it was used to ban semi-automatic rifles and shotguns.

It's always the same people behind it - the gun-grabbers who want the people to be defenceless against the gun-grabbers' employers - the banksters who own all of the politicians. They get their politicians to pass legislation for them, in order to remove the people's freedoms and means of defending themselves, and enslave them in a draconian police-state, under a mountain of debt, and then exterminate the useless-eaters.

The Dunblane massacre was supposedly carried out by Thomas Hamilton, who was a paedophile and procurer of children, for a high level paedophile ring involving senior members of the Tony Blair Labour-Party shadow-cabinet and others. The massacre served two purposes, it achieved their desired handgun-ban and killed the abused children, so they could not be witnesses against the elite-paedophiles. They then had the findings of the inquiry sealed for 100 years, which is proof of the above.

Like Newtown there were two shooters, Hamilton and a hit-man who shot Hamilton and made it look like Hamilton committed suicide after shooting 16 children, so that he couldn't be questioned. Hamilton was found in the school gymnasium slumped against a wall and still gurgling, when an off-duty policeman PC Grant McCutcheon entered the gym and saw two semi-automatic pistols, one on either side of Hamilton's body.

The autopsy revealed that Hamilton was killed with a .38 revolver. These people always slip-up with their crimes. There was no .38 revolver for him to have shot himself with. Thus, there was a second shooter who killed Hamilton.
Similarly, the first reports from Newtown were of two shooters, just like mind-controlled James Holmes in the Denver Batman Cinema massacre, the story then quickly changes to just one.

Columbine was similar, in that a team of shooters in black outfits were seen there and the two accused were on mind-altering prescription-drugs.
Wake up and see the pattern and their modus operandi and don't fall for it. Never let them take your guns, except from your cold dead hands.

All of these are staged events to whip-up hysterical public support for banning the people from having guns. It works the same in every country - Hungerford in England, Dunblane in Scotland, Port Arthur in Australia and the list in America is endless, because of the Second Amendment and the people having a pro-gun culture. That makes it much more difficult to break the Americans' love of guns and the Second Amendment, which was put in place to protect the people from the government.

Gun bans work well for tyrants. They worked well for Hitler, Stalin and Chairman Mao, to name just three.

If you want to stop these massacres, wake-up and get rid of the banksters, their puppet-politicians and all gun-grabbers; arm teachers and ban gun-free zones.

The U.S. Government can't agree on anything - health care, budgets, gay-rights, prayer in schools. But somehow, they're able to form a secret conspiracy group planning to take away the guns. I wonder if that same group could be put to work on healthcare too? :rofl:

This message is from the same kind of mind that believes in all those Internet conspiracy theories; is certain the Martians move among us; the world is going to end on Friday (Dec. 21); and yells at small children and dogs to, "Get off my bloody lawn!". Hey - after Friday, screw the lawn.

There's something in the water these people are drinking, but they walk among us. :nono:
 
You know, I hope we never have this discussion with our cars. We've been teetering on it for a while. The "nobody needs military style weapons" made me say, oh crap because nobody needs a 200 mph car either. Both definitely have the capacity to kill people if not used with respect. The same video gaming shoot'em up kids who go out to shoot guns are probably the same Need for Speed driving kids that go out street racing. Granted, it is not really the same but I've heard parallels of this from anti-car people. Guns can be used safely at the range and for hunting, like cars can be used safely at the track and daily driving, blah, blah, blah. Someone please bring me back to reality here please.

I have to agree. The argument is always that the citizens need guns to protect themselves against the government. If the above is true and these events are planned to cause the loss of gun control all over the globe and this worked in Scotland, Australia, England, why hasn't the government over run the people then now that they are "defenseless"? The above argument is interesting but doesn't hold water. If guns are the only thing standing between us and the government in Canada, I say we arm ourselves to the teeth and march on Parliament Hill and demand lower taxes!
 
there is a big difference between a safely stored deer rifle and a military style assault weapon. an AK47 type weapon has but one purpose and that aint deer huntin'. the link that " 67 " has posted indicates the mentality of the proponents and certainly disturbs the bejezus out of me. riley, in many parts of the country there are stiff laws, maybe too stiff, addressing stunt driving or whatever they like to call it. our insurance companies are also quite a deterrant to " lettin' er rip " indiscriminately. controlling these nut jobs and access to ridiculous weaponry is a whole other matter. :canada:

Exactly! These specialized killing weapons are way over the top and should be banned --- AGAIN -- and kept banned. There's absolutely no 'need' for them.

Seems sales are increasing all over due to this latest massacre. People are now concerned about legislation changes and now rushing to make purchases.
