Good evening Gentlemen,

So I took the plunge and finally ordered a trailer. I needed one for moving my canola seed to my customers and then thought I'd get one suitable for hauling the car too.

So a 22' lowboy, full tilt deck, power tilt too, 83" between fenders (for my 76" wide car!) from Levesque Trailers out of Onoway. What cinched the deal was that they were willing to provide me with a loaner to move my seed if the trailer was not ready in time and that the factory will custom paint it, yes, in this case a Velocity Yellow trailer to match the Z06!

I went with a lowboy instead of an above deck since the angle will be not as steep when loading. Just have to be prepared for some challenges in getting the drivers door open but it may have to be a "Dukes of Hazzard" exit. just as long as it drives on without rubbing on the front - planks could be used but I'd rather avoid that all together.

I may even mount a winch some day..........

I can't wait!

Cheers,

Garry

You know I had the same issues when I picked my car up at the dealership. My buddy, the smallest guy drove the car onto the trailer and climbed out of the trunk, only then did we discover that the drivers window was open. Back into the trunk, closed the window and out of the truck he came.

It made me wonder if you put planks on the drivers side to lift the car up a little, enough to open the door if that would be a solution. Yes the car would sit a little cockeyed but if it makes getting it on and off without damage or crawling out of the trunk that would be good. I also saw a guy with a U Haul trailer and a Ferrari on it that had fenders that folded down over the tires. A little more clearance but it worked for him.

Just a thought on what might make your trailer a little more Corvette friendly.

By the way I love your farming stories. It is something the average person really has no knowledge of so your experience is appreciated.

Good evening Black 03 Z06,

When I loaded the car to send to Manny I went out through the window inside an enclosed car trailer - that was 80 lb ago and it wasn' too bad!

Worse case I hope will be to go out the window and then be able to open the door 3 to 4" and then raise the window and repeat in reverse at my destination. The truck would also be an option!

A highboy would have eliminated this problem but then like I was saying the angle of the ramp would be steeper so that is why I decided to take a shallower loading angle and take my chances with getting out of the car!

Yes true too, I'd have to examin the height I'd need to gain and maybe it could be shimmed.

Maybe I should have had Manny do some Lambo doors for me when he had the car as well!!!!!!!

Thanks for the positive feedback on my farming stories! I suppose not the sort of thing one would expect to find on a Corvette forum but I do tend to wander with my stories and sometimes people do write about some pretty interesting non-car things that I too enjoy reading about.

Cheers,

Garry

Good point buckhorn76 and I am not actually sure if thisone does or not, my leaning is not since it was never mentioned but I'll remember to ask on Monday. I know some people have commented that they didn't care for this but you're right that it would provide a few inches of extra clearance and that could be all I'll need.

I actually so relieved as I've been putting this off for a full year plus now - I had my uncles trailer to use last year but it was only a 7K gross weight non-tilt so I could have used it for seed hauling but not the car. Plus it currently has the siding sitting on it for my sheds.

In the end I think I got the trailer that I wanted and am pretty excited to get it. While the company will provide me with a loaner for moving my seed they said they could have it ready in 3 weeks which means I might only have to make one trip, after all it is about 4 hours to the town where the trailer business is. Nice as a backup but mid April could be fine for bring the seed to my customers...........

Now I wonder how much it would cost to get my truck painted to match?!

Cheers,

Garry

Do you think a higher trailer whit ramp extension could work and help you open the door? I had to move a car for a friend a few years ago and we borrowed a trailer from another person who was an ex-racer, His trailer had 2X12 on the trailer floor and it provided just enough to clear his door. These 2X12 are now removable so the trailer can be use for other purpose. The 2X12 where cut whit an angle on the rear extremity to climb easier on it. Maybe it could work for you. Stephane

Good morning Stephane,

An excellent suggestion! I think it is a case of hoping for the best and preparing fo rthe worst and all the sugegstions people have sent are great.

It may be a case of "much ado about nothing" in the end - once I get the trailer and run the car up on it there may be no problems what so ever. But I just want to start thinking about what could go wrong and what strategies might be available to me to resolve them so I can be as best prepared.

I'm sort of excited as they said it could be ready in as soon a three weeks even! They'll let me know on Monday. I also really made sure they understood that it was critical that the paint match be spot on so they are going to confirm that with the factory as well.

Cheers,

Garry

I had to use 2x12 boards under front tires to get out of my ZR1 on my trailer.

This trailer will be for sale soon..... will be posting ad's soon for the trailer and also those black ZR1 style rims.

Actually, everything in this picture will be for sale soon. 2005 Escalade, trailer, ZR1 and extra rims.

No, not in financial trouble..... just going to enjoy my jet ski this summer..... can't have too many toys.

Good afternoon Brian,

Did you have a full tilt and is it a deck between or deck above? I have considered that the nose of the car will have to start climbing as soon as possible for it to clear. But then again a short pair of 2 by 12's would not be the end of the world for me either. If I am lucky I'll hit 3 or 4 XC's in a year but then again who knows. If I actually ever get good at it I might enjoy it more!

Hope your sale goes good.

Choosing a jet ski over a ZR1???????????? Is there therapy available for that - LOL!

Hey Brian,

Just looked at the pictures, is your trailer a tilt or pullout ramp style??

I love your windscreen though!

Cheers,

Garry

there are ramps tucked in at the back, they slide out. I use 2x12's too.

The guy I bought the trailer from was the guy who brought the Champ Car/Indy event to Edmonton back in 2006.. long time friend. he showed me a scuff mark on the front BJ & The Bear fiberglass front that a piece of debris few and his the front and missed his classic car.

My trailer has a 2 foot dove tail at the back. slight angle.

I still have to use long 2x12's with wood underneath ( to not chance the wood from splitting ) and I use a 2 ton jack about 3 feet from the back of the trailer to keep it from tilting down when you drive on.

here is a picture.

With that front part it is kinda called a poor mans enclosed trailer..... protection on the front.

most enclosed trailers need a 3/4 ton to tow.... this is easy with a 1/2 ton. If a real head wind it gets a bit harder..... but with no wind I tow at 110 km hr easy.

Good evening Brian,

I am hoping that a full tilt deck for the additional expense will help with the loading challenge. I'm impressed that your trailer took a ZR1 with just a pair of 2 by 12's. I hope that since the front end will be lifting as soon as the wheels hit the deck it might be a true RO-RO situation and if not I'll adapt.

I may have to consider a similar front for my trailer.

While I appreciate your enthusiasm with your jetski I'm sure your ZR1 must have attracted more than its share of looks and comments from the ladies! Perhaps just not as nicely dressed!

Will you ever replace your ZR1? C7 hunting in the future??

Cheers,

Garry

I bought them from West Coast Corvette. They come from Florida I think they told me.

I had a set of Z06 Chromes on my Lemans Blue Z06 and ALL 3 sets of rims held up good..... decent strong on the Edmonton pothole roads.

Going to watch the last 30 minutes of Sebring....

Sorry to take the post off topic.....

Now, I did take the CF off for a while.. they are back on now.. loaded with them off.

I have thought of a yellow C7 Z06 but would probably wait till they are 2 years old. I don't make stupid money to take a new car depreciation hit that often.

Some people jack up the tongue of the trailer to angle the trailer better to load......flipping vettes are hard to load if they have the CF on the car... unless you get some custom made enclosed trailers ( trailex ) that are $20,000+ to buy.
