The Canadian government is designating a proposal for a new oil pipeline to the West Coast the first-ever project of national interest under Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Building Canada Act.

Reading the linked article through, I see that the Head Dipper, Avi Lewis, is advocating instead for public transit, collective safety, and all the usual "stuff". Wonder if he knows that (a) all such alternative efforts are paid for by the citizenry, not private industry in any way shape or form (b) the feel-good projects he advocates for can't be exported, don't generate income, nor jobs after any initial construction is completed. And they generally get run after completion of the project at a significant loss, unlike pipelines and exported energy.

But that's just my cynicism setting in.
