Unfortunately our current PM won’t just ride this out and instead is pretending other markets that we aren’t prepared to ship to will replace a market that makes up 80%+ of our exports. What’s worse is people that support such nonsense. Smile, shake hands, cut deals, remember he’ll be gone in a short while, and throw up when you leave the room.
This “disengagement” is pure tomfoolery and short sighted nonsense as is anyone that supports it. IMO. YMMV.
That's a pretty simplistic and self serving view for what a "just ride this out" would result in for Canada. Granted, our shipping to other markets ability is somewhat limited at this time but certainly exists as a partial buffer for what the US trade war is doing to ours and a multitude of other countries worldwide. It may be Manitoba's answer to smile and take it up the chute but will you have the same answer when we fall deep into recession? Just in case you aren't familiar with the term 'recession', Here's what you have to look forward to.
Decreased Economic Activity will result in a major drop in the GDP, which, in case you aren't aware, is the total economic output of a country.
Increased Unemployment. As economic activity declines, jobs are lost. MB already has a severe homeless situation and likely would like to avoid more.
A decrease in consumer spending is inevitable as people tend to save instead of spend. Especially if they have lost their jobs.
Businesses experiencing negative growth, reduced or loss profits, which also leads to job losses.
Recessions in themselves are a natural part of an economic cycle, but usually don't last long and the economy does recover. But if we "just ride this out" for three years or more, we would be in big trouble and who's to say that after Trump we don't end up with another billionaire turd with no respect for the rest of the world. Say goodbye to your RRSP's and other investments when the stock market crashes and say hello to widespread unemployment, hunger, homelessness and crime. Comparatively, the recession of the dirty 30's will look like a walk in the park and this is what Trump wants. This would be our new reality and an invitation for the spray tanned turd to make his final push for his 51st State.
As the US market that we are so dependent on has dropped by $40 billion (Jan. to Nov.) Carney's attempt to expand our exports and imports to other more friendly and reasonable markets is the only way that the upcoming recession in Canada can be buffered somewhat and keep Trump at bay. If you are not a Trump lover and aren't on the 51st state bandwagon, and know of a better way besides "just ride it out", let Wab Kinew know and maybe he will pass it on to the PM. .....
YMMV... Strike that. You definitely have different views.
