USB but it’s a one way street. You can load songs via USB but to delete tracks it’s managed on the device. In all fairness it’s a seven or so year old unit but still a great rig. Creative Labs make some excellent products. Any PC gamer who has been at it for a while would recognize the Sound Blaster line of PCI Sound cards although these days onboard audio has gotten quite good and most people just go with that. I did connect it to the car with USB but all I got was a charging icon on the player. Didn’t show up as a connected device.

My C7 has two USB ports. Only the one under the infotainment slide screen will play my music. The other one in the center cubby only charges.

The 2 in the 2024 centre console, USB A/C, can both be used as audio system inputs.
So, I got me one of these, in case I couldn't decide which port to use...(not this one exactly, just like it, at Walmart, I think?)

I also believe they both charge. Unless you've got an older candy bar or flipper/folder, you're out of luck.
Today's average sized smartphone is a tight squeeze into the centre console.

I just got back home and after 700 km on the road today am a bit weary so will look into it further tomorrow. Makes sense that one of the two remaining would be input. My guess is the USB c . USBc is a two way street and will even handle hi res video.

I may look into a more modern version, there are some nice ones available. And multi purpose which is what I like about that form factor. A juke box in your pocket. Add a portable DSP and it’s hard to beat.

As I said before it's a finicky (MY2024) audio system, and the OM (page 124, for mini Jack) doesn't say the audio system will accept all portable music storage device types, as valid input device types.
The FAT32/exFAT/NTFS device format was another challenge to be overcome. Trial and error.

Exactly but the swine didn’t install one in my car. Maybe supply chain issues when it went down the line? Who knows. We shall overcome. As I mentioned disappointed, you would have to hear the sound quality of this little device to appreciate it. Very surprising . I should add that during the latter part of the trip today after setting everything to default and finding a better stream from Serious, they all aren’t equal for some reason, the system was sounding much better. Perhaps the speakers are a bit more seasoned/broken in . I have an 11 channel home theatre receiver that has 11 dedicated amps, one for each channel, with all SVS ultra speakers currently in a 5.2.4 configuration and after about two months from new there was a very noticeable difference in the sound quality. Atmos and DTS Neural X are amazing. So perhaps that has something to do with it. Serious still sucks though. I admit I do like trying to sort this kind of thing out.

So, after realizing the folly of my quest... I chose to rip my CDs to my laptop, copy them to a few "newest tech available" USB drives, and stopped at that point.
They sound fine to me, considering the output system they're being played through, and that they're being played in a car like the C8 Corvette, competing with an often very noisy engine behind my head, I realized that was probably about the best I could hope for.
As an exit segue, I'll just say good luck with it. I know you're determined to make it work.

I had some thoughts about different ways of getting the best possible input source into the car audio system, somehow, after I realized the SXM, AM, FM, Bluetooth, USB primary source options input limitations.Nothing I came up with worked as well as the simpler method I finally accepted.
So, after realizing the folly of my quest... I chose to rip my CDs to my laptop, copy them to a few "newest tech available" USB drives, and stopped at that point.
They sound fine to me, considering the output system they're being played through, and that they're being played in a car like the C8 Corvette, competing with an often very noisy engine behind my head, I realized that was probably about the best I could hope for.
As an exit segue, I'll just say good luck with it. I know you're determined to make it work.

Guess cutting out the jack saved a couple of dollars for GM. Not that many devices output to that type of jack. Certainly not cell phones that don't even have a headphone jack. I also use FLAC for my music...but not for the car. I rip music twice, once in FLAC and once using iTunes. The iTunes library gets copied to a USB key (and periodically updated) and left in the C8. It's good enough quality given all the background noise from various sources. I find though that I prefer the engine sounds to playing any type of music lol.

I Tunes is very popular although I have been using Media Monkey for years and it does everything but the dishes. It can handle an almost unlimited number of files and if you have the Gold version it will also use multiple CPU cores . Very fast . Fair learning curve though for first time users. Supports every codec you can think of and some you’ve never heard of, lol . Also utilizes Exact Audio Copy . Volume levels on the fly if you choose to do so. Etc , etc .

Downloaded some HD tracks from Prime Music today. Night and day difference. Even if it is Bluetooth.
