Zora coming? No! ZR1X

No problem….
GM did not name the ZR1-X the “Zora” because they wanted to emphasize its direct lineage to the ZR1, highlighting that the ZR1X is an evolution of the ZR1 rather than a completely separate identity. The “X” in ZR1X denotes this progression, reinforcing the connection within the Corvette lineup and maintaining brand continuity. According to GM spokespeople, the Zora name was never formally considered for production; instead, the team felt the ZR1 designation was more fitting for a car that, while significantly advanced, still shares strong mechanical and conceptual ties to the ZR1.
While enthusiasts and media widely speculated about the Zora name as a tribute to Zora Arkus-Duntov—the engineer known as the “father of the Corvette”—GM chose to keep the ZR1 family naming convention for clarity and heritage reasons.
Allow me to assist:

Marketing.

Yeah there may be a trade off between having enough downforce and going airborne, lol. Incredible machine no matter how you slice it. Bit much for a grocery getter….
But great for picking up carry out (or is it take-away up North?). With those turbos in the exhaust stream it'll keep your food toasty hot on the way home.

For reference, it would be interesting to compare the ZR1x up against BOOSTDISTRICT'S Eray with less aero that just dipped into the 8's at 150+mph. His car has drag radials vs Cup 2R on the ZR1x.
I think both ZR1 and x will involve in more crashes per/vehicle because of its massive power? To be able to use 75%+ of its potential, the owner better be in good physical condition?
Yeah. I kind of think GM made a mistake with making the PTM settings so much easier to find in the '26 refresh. I'm afraid there are going to be way too many drivers who want to show off, going to PTM Pro, and driving straight into a tree or telephone pole.

Yeah. But they could have called it the ZR1 Zora and linked it to the ZR1 and Zora at the same time.

I've never been a Corvette enthusiast. I like them of course as much as any sports car, but I don't understand why the Corvette enthusiasts insist on wanting a car model called "Zora". Is it because other cars are named after their inventors like Enzo? I mean Zora's face is easter egged all the time. Isn't that enough?

So this is it for the C8 platform? No other models to follow? In that case, C9 will be here shortly after 2026?
Many think there will be a GS and other perhaps special editions. 2028 will be the 75th anniversary for example.

No one has said that. Mark Reuss, in a video with Jay Leno, implied the C8 lineup has more to offer. Many people expect a Grand Sport for the 2027 MY (basically a Stingray Z51 with the bodywork, wheels, tires and brakes from the Z06). 2028 is the 75th anniversary of the Corvette, so expect a special anniversary edition (but based on the 65th and 70th anniversary editions it'll just be a special color / interior / badge package). There are rumors that for 2027 or 2028 the new Gen VI small block V8 will make it's way into the C8, with a horsepower boost over the current LT2. And at least one dreamer thinks GM will electrify the Z06, too, creating a Z06X (I'm not holding my breath for that one.) Most of the Corvette community seem to think the C8 will run through 2029, with a C9 debuting in 2030. ALL of the above is speculation, but based on reasonable expectations. The only part I would be money on right now is a 75th anniversary edition.

Not sure about that terminology as I never eat fast food or restaurant food for that matter except when travelling. . Been to McDonalds about 5 times in my life with other people. Even the trunk in the Stingray is pretty toasty. Not a great spot to carry ice cream or beer home but it beats the back of a pickup . The Ravens here will swoop in and go after your groceries if given a chance. Had it happen before, lol.

Funny you mention McDonald’s with Corvette; when I was at Ron Fellows in Nevada, one of the guys in my group was a retired McDonald’s VP who had bought the C8 as his “cottage car”. It was interesting to hear that he liked it more than some of his other more expensive machines.

Pardon my ignorance, but the GS was pretty much just a cosmetic option (wide body) wasn't it?

IIRC, the C6 GS coupes had a dry sump engine, engine oil cooler and a differential cooler. GS convertables were wet sump, not sure if they had a differential cooler , no engine oil cooler. Put the engine oil cooler on my GS. It dropped the oil temps from 250ªF normal was 230ªF track ~270ªF in stop and go Toronto to about 190ªF.

It seems that there will be something that are more exclusive/$$$$$ then the ZR1 x to come?
Active aero perhaps? What if it is all electric to take on the $1 million+ Rimac Nevera?

Did executives hint of that possibility in the early days?
I think this would expand their customer base from those that waited for the Tesla Roadster that never came?

Tadge and others have said the Corvette will always be ICE. Of course "always" is a long time. lol

They will be reducing weight and will use the same drivetrain. HP/weight ratio is where it’s at ! Probably more carbon fibre and perhaps improved aerodynamics and of course bigger price . Solid state batteries perhaps and or more powerful electric motors. Time will tell.

Better cancel your ZR1 order and put your name on the ZORA list? lol..
