I would suggest that those at mid-life or past quite often are buying one because it took that long to be in the financial position to do so . Show me a 30 year old that wouldn't love to be driving one and I will show you a 30 year old that lobbies for more bike lanes..........

I bought my first Corvette at age 25. Even though Corvette has been the #1 obtainable dream car for most, I saw no need to wait while having my family and it was faster than the Ambulance getting my wife to the hospital for our first child to be born!
