WTF?!

This one?

So let me get this straight, the guy “lives” in BC but had purchased his C8 from a “dealer” in Windsor. Car has Ontario plates and is now for sale back in Windsor? Hmmm. 130K for an LT1? Wow. Hefty premium. Oh well good for them.

I remember Jake when the C7 came out. He was C7jake then.....He was all over the place for the 1st two years and then he disappeared...Will probably happen again, but someone should register the C9jake name now.

I don't believe that he actually lives here. ...well I hope he doesn't...He is just enthralled with the name Sicamous....

I see dealers listing new C8's on Kijiji at MSRP. There are over a dozen listed. Seems pretty easy to get one in Canada at list if you really want one.

You are kidding right? These are auto-populated ads at MSRP. If you call or go in to buy the car 90+% will say it is already sold or if not demand a big mark up over MSRP for the car. I've been through this many times. And plenty of guys here are struggling with right now on the elusive C8s.
This is not exclusive to GM or Corvettes. The Camaro ZL1s, HP Mustangs, Hellcats and Demons...etc all presented the same BS from shitty dealerships. There are some awesome dealerships out there that do play the long game to gain a high-end long term customer and do not do this MSRP mark up but the vast majority do.
There are only 3 or 4 dealerships in Canada I will deal with now because of this.

Just follow up Darrell, My last attempt to buy a new 19 ZR1 was this exact situation. I was overseas and it was my dealership who sold me 3 cars that year including my new 17 Z06. All for cash..with no haggling on the Cadillac or Z06. I Inquired as to holding the car till I got home and committed with $$$ They had my $20,000 deposit sitting with them for a year for this car. They were thrilled and just as the deal was finishing...slipped in there would be a $30,000+ premium on the car and to ignore the price listed on the ads both on Kijjiji and their own website.
I went straight to GM about this and they politely told me to F myself as the dealerships can do whatever they want as they do not represent GM or have any affiliation within any of their business units. Ya...dealerships are customers of GM. 0 satisfaction on this one.

That is why I absolutely shake my head when I hear of guys getting banned or put on a blacklist by GM or dealerships for flipping these cars. Cause basically that what the crap dealers are doing and GM turns a blind eye.

Now some dealerships that sell for MSRP for the reasons I mentioned above and discover the customer is a flipper, I understand that blackballing as that person is almost certainly not a long run customer. Car sales, service, accessories, parts etc.

Ok thanks for reading my rant. Thought I was over this... guess not. haha

Thanks, I am much more informed on the situation now.

A $30,000 f-you very much added incentive after buying three cars? I think I would have blown a gasket. When I bought my C7 back in 2014 I had already purchased three cars from that dealer. They were quite reasonable on their pricing. I did haggle on all the cars and even got a at cost discount on some C7 parts. My family has since bought two more cars from them. Treat a customer well and they'll be back. The C8 is a hot commodity right now but things will eventually cool off. From the wise words of the Master from Kung Fu ... patience grasshopper.

Now that the second shift is about to kick in to gear, and daily production jumps to 180 cars per day, that backlog will be gone in short order. For sure the premiums will dry up. Always some with money and no patience, but for those that want the car, the wait will be far more manageable. I am seeing C8's on the road fairly regularly now. Meaning at least one per week.

This has been going on for a hundred years. In the 80’s when the Grand National’s were all the rage they were being sold by dealers for $10k over MSRP and dealers were playing games with buyers all day long. The Hellcat in 2015 was the same deal. I have a list of dealers I will never deal with due to both the Buick and the Hellcat. Many of the dealerships have gone bye-bye. I have never understood the motivation to make a quick buck at the expense of a long term customer who will, by word of mouth, bring you more business than you can handle.

As a species we are short sighted and only live for the instant gratification of the sale/win/kill.

I am honestly looking forward to "the circus" of this inaugural year to leave town.
A year in the future with C8 inventory begging for msrp on Dealership Lots.
A used C8 for sale elsewhere on the lot just like c-gens before it.
Discussion of the Corvette-Volt 1LT being just around the corner.
In the meantime though, it’s Cirque de Soleil and its pricing.
Having a lack of enthusiasm myself for even sitting in a showroom 1LT C8 for now
let alone the “sold-out ticket" scalpers (based from having been here before) - jmo

The way I see it, chev will be pumping out 50,000 a year in the future, so much for exclusivity, it's about profit. First year very cool car, second year, a cool car, third year just another car. IMO
Agree that the Corvette is a mass produced car and as such is not about exclusivity. That said, it is still a technically great car that will only get better with every year. If people want exclusive, by a classic survivor of your favorite body style. We all know they are not making any more of them.
