Ok , I will bite, sorry for my ignorance my friend, why would it be 'bad to drive a C2 cross county that includes the desert?' - the C2 would include I guess the 60's cars like a 63 split window or a 65 convertible right? the coke bottle cars are the c3's correct?
Correct, the old cars, big blocks in particular were not know for handling the heat well, not saying it can't be done but your chances, comfort and fuel mileage in a C7 would make the trip much more fun. I have owned many older muscle cars and loved them including older Hemi's, tons of fun, can't beat the sound and cool factor but for handling, brakes, reliability and safety when it comes to cross country hard to beat a newer car.
 
Driving.ca just ranked the "Best Corvettes" as follows. #1. C2, # 2. C3. #3 C6 # 4 C1, #5 C7, # 6C4, #7.C5. Just their opinion of course, many will disagree.

Agreed, I have seen some articles by driving.ca that were factually incorrect and/or completely at odds with the real world.
 
Take a look at picture #6 for the C4 - that is a RED on RED 1988 car -- that is identical to my first Vette, and when I was handed the keys to my first Vette -- and got behind the wheel no person on the planet could say anything negative about it or any review or any comment period, I was in total heaven -- this picture brings back a lot of memories wow -- identical. the '89's had different wheels the go in more in the center, the 88's were flush. Same wheels on mine.

I'd just like to second the rental option. Many touristy spots have Corvettes for rent. When I went down to Florida it cost me an extra $40-$50 US a day to get a Corvette over a sedan. So I rented that and drove it for a day down to Cape Canaveral since I was down a day before the family arrived. That's what sold me on the car.
 
My C7 "rental" cost about $80k ;) (could not find the "rental" return - so it's in the stable)

My Wife "rented" another a year later :oops: (hmmm found consistency with above - so it joined the other in the stable)

We don't "rent" Corvettes anymore ... :thumbs: (we learned from above - and there's no more room in the stable)

Well ... for now ... :Woot: ... as we shop for a big a$$ stable with an attached house
