The other day, I started my car and within 20 feet the Service ABS light/AH stuff came on which happens about once a month or two. Most likely because I've been lazy and haven't cleaned my grounds.....and the battery seems to be getting weak. Anyway.
Because I didn't want to have to stare at the light for the drive home, I shut the car off and knowing that the car dings the error messages again, I started hitting the reset button repeatedly to clear them quickly so I could start the car and keep going.
Well, about the 5th time hitting the reset button (with the car off), the tach gauge pops up to 1000 rpm. I didn't pay any attention to it because I didn't start the car yet.
With the car not dinging messages anymore, I fired it up and pulled out onto the street.......then looking at the dash, the speedometer is showing 0 and the tach is stuck on 1000 rpm.
Well crap, I figured it was my window valet acting up as it has a setting to disable the tach and speedometer so I figured I would just reset it when I get home.
However, about 3 minutes into the drive, the dash dings three times and the tach and speedometer start working again!
How weird is that???

Riley I think you answered your own question. The battery is getting weak, you never know what low voltage will do with the electronics. I would start there and see if the problem continues.

By the way what year was your Chevelle?

Sorry for the delay on replying in the thread. Loooooooooooooong weekend.

The Chevelle was a 66 Canadian A51 car (No SS's in Canada in 66). It was a 289 powerglide. A previous owner changed it out to a 396. My dad and I completed the transition by adding a 4 speed. It was a very fun car.
