I am replacing the b pillar weather stripping on my 82 corvette and I noticed a metal strip behind it do I need to put it back when I put on new weather strip or just glue new weather stripping to the pillar .

Is the "metal strip" a part of the car, or embedded in the new weather strip?
If it's in the weather strip, it's possible there are metal "teeth" which act as clamps, to hold the strip on, after being tapped on with a (rubber) mallet.
If that's the case, glue is optional.
(Careful with the amount of glue, if you use it........melting in the heat possibly)

I hope the glue you're referring to is weather stripping adhesive if you want it to stay in place.
