Thats dealers for you. For those in Edmonton, Deol Automotive has a tech2 and charged MUCH less. Example switched from my NAV to a 6 changer CD that needed a tech2 programming. Dealer wanted over $100 and a bunch of BS about needing a special program. Deol did it for $25.....

Also as far as the DRL at CT, dont sweat it.. I just made sure the lights were on when starting the car and thats all they cared about..... What a joke. THey liked looking more at the car than the checklist on their clipboard......

Nice to know there's 'real' people in this world .. Deol sounds real to me........

$200 at CT for a so-called inspection sounds like a bit of a joke. -- a very expensive one at that!.
Time for another "Disgusted from Cambridge" to my MPP.

well it's the gov't that charges the RIV fee, it had to be paid at the border whne my son imported his car. and his drl were turned on at the dash/info center on his car, a 01 z06.

So no adjustment or anything to turn your son's on then? They look to see the lights are on and you just pay the $200? What a rip. I'm sure they'll get the message from my "disgusted from Cambridge" communique, only perhaps not directed so much at CTC.

I see now that's it's just another 'tax'....

TNX BN -- I stand corrected.

The 195+tax fee (I don't remember it being that much when I imported my Corvette) is set and paid for at the border so no money should be changing hands at CT. What I think CT is doing is charging a lot of money to "turn on" the DRL's. When I took mine to Acura, I just showed him that the corner lights turned on when I started the car. The inspector said, "Good enough!" and sign the form. When I went in to the dealership for the provincial inspection, they wanted to charge me $65 to "turn on" the DRL's. I said it passed the Federal Inspection and was signed off so don't touch it. However, they still got their money out of me by charging me for an alignment because it wasn't up to SGI's standards (what the hell does SGI know about Corvettes?) and charged me $54 to replace the windshield wiper nozzles. The total came to $300 plus $33 for shop supplies. I asked how they used $33 of materials to do an inspection, replace the washer nozzles and do an alignment. Their answer, oh, it's just an 11% cost we apply to all our work. Needless to say, they got their $33 out of me but that dealership will never see my shadow again. Short term gain for a long term loss.

Sorry to go off on a tangent! Long story short. I think CT tries to make their money off of hooking the car up to a computer as the inspection is already paid for.

i agree, the person who inspected my son's car said the drl's should be his headlights. this guy's reason was because the headlights on his 84 pickup were his drl's! so todd had a bit of an argument and had to show him before he would sign off. i have to question just what monkey our local ct was using for the inspection.

That's weird because Canada didn't legislate DLR's on vehicles before 1991 and the states followed in 1994 so everywhere in NA has had DLR's since 1994. I don't know what the issue is. Dodge hasn't used the headlights for DLR's for quite a while looking at the history of the Caravans. I bet this is a throw back to those three years where we had to have DLR's and the US didn't. The techs apparently never got with the times and are still fighting for something that became obsolete as laws became the same in both countries 19 years ago.

it is just a visual inspection, nothing mechanical. When I imported my C6 I had to buy a child restraint bolt pkge for a childs seat in order to pass. Child seats are not allowed in front seats here. I just had to buy it, leave it on the front seat, pass inspection after they saw it lying there and then take it back!
