Just joined today and am planning a trip to the U.S. to purchase 2010-2012 ZR1. Wondered if warranty is good here in Canada if it is purchased in U.S.? I cannot seem to find what I want here in Canada so this may be my only option.

Welcome Navion -- good luck with your ZR-1 search --

I'd be inclined to discuss the warranty question with GM themselves.
Here's link to all their contact info:

Woo! Awesome! That must be exciting!

I only know rumors, nothing first hand but how it used to be is that they honored the warranty on used cars and not new ones purchased in the states, but that was a few years ago already. Best to do as CCO suggested and get it right from the horses mouth.

Welcome to the forum! Make sure to post some pics when you find your dream car!

There was talk a year or so ago that GM wouldn't let the dealers sell new cars to Canadians going south to buy. I don't know if that was actually true. If you can't get warranty but can save enough buying in the U.S., put that money away in case of problems. The odds of anything major going wrong is remote but not impossible. How about looking into aftermarket used car type warranties. Might be better than nothing. Just a thought.

A second thought about warranty on US cars:

Our friend from Welland -- Tony -- has a US car and I believe he has full warranty. He did buy thru a Chev dealer tho.
You might want to contact him (Tony) for some info.

Navion and Colin,
re my 2013 GS. and warranty.

The dealership I bought through, was able to purchase the car last july as the
dealer who had ordered the car,[ for a specific customer] was able to put it
through a broker !! And the broker sold it to my dealer. GM does not allow
dealers to directly sell to one another ; ie..Canada..US; but GM does allow
dealer / broker sales. [ according to my contact...GM are not exactly happy
with such sales.

I have a full warranty, ie. 3 years on everything. I think Colin's suggestion re
phoning GM is the way to go. As you are thinking of a used vehicle, I'm
guessing you would get the remainder of the new car warranty with no
hassle.

Happy hunting,
Tony,
welland

My car is a 2011 Grand Sport which was brought in from the States and sold to me through a dealer although a Honda dealer, not GM .
I was assured that my car has the remainder of the factory GM warranty .

Now you guys have me worried ... I'll have to make some inquiries

I am just getting ready to list my "67 Coupe for sale and thought I should find out about this warranty issue before I sell her as I don't want to be without a summer car to drive. I understand there are dealers in Canada who import U.S. cars and sell them here so I was thinking that if they honour warranty then I should be able to buy one and bring it back to Canada too. I will contact GM Canada to get their version.

Thx. Steamer for the heads up on the one in Vancouver. I really want one that is at least a 2010 and their price is far too high compared to some in the U.S. with much lower mileage. It is definitely the colour I want though.

PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES! I want to see your 67 coupe! I'm not a potential buyer but 67's are awesome! I would love to see what it looks like and I'm sure others would love it too!

I have a 2008 coupe. A US car bought in Canda from a Non GM lot. I had the full warrenty here for the 3 years and still have the 5 year power train till May. No issues at all with the dealer fixing warrenty repairs.

Riley P I will be happy to post some pics. once I get some decent weather. At the moment, she is sitting in the very back of my airplane hangar all covered up. I will need some help when the time comes to do the pics. as I am an old fart and have no idea how to post them.

LOL, Navion, A lot of us are "old farts" so you're not alone.. Picture posting will be a heck of a lot easier that either owning a '67 or flying.:D
We'd be glad to help when the time comes.
G/L with your search.

Cheers

Navion,

Are you familiar with the unusual Midland, Ontario '67 convertible (with hardtop) that was black and then restored to red?

Navion, If your handle is the same as the aircraft your flying, you have a pretty rare piece of kit there too. My friend has one that was the VIP hack for Douglas aircraft during the war. Welcome to the forum and good luck with the car.

Steamer, good eyes! I owned and flew a 1949 Navion for 14 years. I now own and fly a Commander 114. Either you are a pilot yourself or are very knowledgeable about aircraft. They were both built by the same company, North American Rockwell and they are built like tanks.
