I put my "78 away for the winter. I hope to meet the locals and maybe enjoy a cruise together in the spring!--- When he gets his new motor installed. Sound good?

You mean like---sad ---that I only have a two car garage and have to put the vette away early? The "Vic" is in one half and the "driver" is in the other---so--- no room for the Vette.
Or---Did U mean----sad---That I haven't met the locals as of yet?

Hey Bob, sorry we haven't got together yet. House is keeping me busy with the final touches on the renos. I've been installing shelving and closet rods all day today. :(

I'll be sure and get together for a cruise in the spring. Hopefully see you before then even.

Greg.

Hey Greg, I figured ur busy. Just wanted to let u no I put her in storage! Come by for a beverage anytime. I'd love 2 talk to u about her---even when she's not here! I wud also like 2 hear about ur motor install.----boB

All of the above :D I'm also short on meeting the locals but pledge to do so.

Just put mine away as well boB!....in a different location than where I live. I feel your pain!

Ya, I get to chomp at the bit til spring----Can't wait to get the wrenches greasy! Still have to figure out if I shud switch the trannies w the motors. The crate motor has a 200 4R w stage 2 shift kit (I'm told) and I'm not sure as of now, what a stock "78 vette has. Possibly not a good exchange. I have all winter 2 maul over the situation. I'm not well versed on GM's But---with a little help from my friends----We can get er dun!

You probably have a TH350 in your car right now. The swap to a 200R4 is a pretty easy from what I've read and you'd have an od tranny in your car! I say go for it!

Hey Riley, Do u no if I can pull the trans with the motor---or is it easier to separate them? The crate and 200 4r are in an 87 monte carlo---i think I can pull both at once.(maybe with the rad out)

I am not 100% sure on that one. Hopefully someone with experience with pulling motors from C3's can chime in.

At least with an automatic the rear crossmember is removeable.

Thanks "Case75"----That's something I wasn't aware of, but either way----separate or together----they're comin out. I have tried to figure a way to do it now,but with winter coming and so much else to do---I guess I have to wait 'til spring.

Somehow I managed to get this discussion going on 2 different forum sections. anyhow----if I transplant both the motor and transmission, I won't need a new flexplate and I am beginning to think the OD trans might be the way to go. The 78 c3 has a 350 ci w Edelbrock alum intake and edel 4bbl carb with stock trans. The monte(donor motor) has a crate motor 350ci (said to b 325hp) w bowtie intake w quadrajet 4bbl carb. I hope I am making the right move. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated especially 'cause I am not well versed on these motors or transmissions.----TY

another consideration is emissions, each year engine has it's own emission specs, if the emissions gestapo wants to they can make life uncomfortable for you, just sayin'

i think i would be trying to figure out just exactly what that "crate engine" is. casting # ? cylinder heads? casting # on intake ? q-jet part # ? if you give me the carb number i can help you i.d. it.
