There is a trade show in Chicago November 18th .If I go via Canada I can cut 6hrs of my drive time .From here I'd hit Montreal -Toronto to Flint Michigan .Looks like I take route 401 .Weather can be really unpredictable even in July let alone November .Any thoughts .(yes I'd drive the Vett :D

I've driven from Sarnia/Port Huron to Chicago. It's a good drive and avoids Detroit. Take the 402 across to Sarnia from London and then I69 to I94. Catch I90 just outside Gary, Indiana and on into Chicago. Yes, there could be lake effect snow, most likely near Sarnia and Michigan City.

The I80/I90 route looks better to me and avoids the dreaded border crossings. https://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=B...CwOiDEAwMAJrabgrw&oq=ch&mra=mru&t=m&z=6&via=1

Is the trade show at the McCormick Place? I've been to a show there. I stayed next door at the Hyatt Regency.

I was in Chicago once looking at a couple cranes and they we're rust buckets because they use pure salt .How do the treat roads on the Canadian side ? sand ? salt ? nothing .

Maine pre -treats roads prior to a storm with some chemical that will rust rubber (ugly stuff)

It's mostly salt here in Ontario.

Now, Ontario is using a lot of calcium chloride brine. It does a great job on the roads and on wiring harnesses too. Our son-in-law is a heavy truck mechanic and what the brine does to the wiring harnesses of trucks is a nightmare. Installing complete new harnesses is a regular occurrence. Living here in Southern Ontario, about the only thing I don't like about winter is the road salt.

Thats what there using here and it is terrible on every car component. It's a liquid they spray on the road just prior to a storm .Should be outlawed and banned .

I'm calling my vendor Monday to see if they will be having the show in Vegas,Texas or Key West during February.:D

steve, if you decide to make the trip, maybe a couple of us could mosey down to the 401 around bowmanville and meet you for a coffee and a bite to eat. there is a truck stop there.....the fifth wheel. that's about 40 minutes east of toronto.

doug.
