I was at the Toronto boat show when my eye gravitated towards this from a distance. Mercury racing's new engine that reminded me at first glance a little like the old LT-5. This neat cutaway engine showed some of the DNA: 32 Valves double overhead cams. Yes it had twin turbos too. I don't know much about it only that yes it is available as a crate engine for automobiles too, costs about $68,000 US without the turbos, computer, or wiring harness. It's time to mortgage the house!

That is basically "The Son of an LT-5". It's rated at 1650 hp with the twin turbo's.

Mercury Marine originally built the LT-5 for GM back in the late 80's and early 90's. They had built a few Gen II LT-5's that was slated to go into the new C-5, the engine was to be rated at 475 hp, but the program got cancelled and the Gen II never got developed.

Is there an optical illusion with the 3rd picture? When I look at the timing chain it appears that it goes to the side of the casing and simply stops. However when you look at the first picture you can clearly see how the chain is routed around another pulley. It appears in the 3rd photo that there would not be any room for that pulley to even fit in there.

Thanks for sharing the photographs, that is a really interesting motor.

How was the boat show? Lots of people window shopping?

Just am illusion the chain wraps right around.

Boat show was good but not much different from last year at least for me. There's lots to see and do. Many people buying things, many sold signs on boats, and some motors sold. It's on today and next weekend too.
