The Tariff Thread

These are the models the current Made in America Auto Index says are most likely to be slapped with the lowest tariffs moving forward, with their estimated percentages of domestic content noted:

12. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (72.5%)
Trouble is "Domestic" includes Canada, but it is just a guide.

Good factual explainer of how reciprocated tariffs were 'calculated' on countries for want of a much different word.
Ya, pretty much what I heard from others, but it's nice to get a good clear understanding of how stupid Dontator is and all that surround him!

Based on the Federal government we have had to put up with, and since it appears we will have to put up with again, it's a shame that not everyone east of Manitoba shares that resentment sentiment. ;)
Don't judge us too quickly there, pardner.

Ironically with all of the talk about the tariffs being imposed on Canadian exports to the United States it’s the tariffs imposed on US goods coming into Canada by our own government that will affect individual Canadians most directly. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem that there are many alternatives available as far as a response goes.

The tariffs on Canadian exports to the USA are affecting Canadian workers just as much and have the potential to do more harm in the long run. Stellantis paused work at one plant already that will have a ripple affect. A furniture factory in BC has already shut down and moved operations to North Carolina. The lumber industry is about to get hammered again with more duties/tariffs. We just dodged one, for now, on seafood on the East Coast that would have killed a lot of communities. ALL tariffs kill jobs.

American tariffs on Canadian exports will certainly have a nation wide negative impact on Canadian jobs and productivity to put it mildly. Our Federal response should be to help industry & employees affected, which will happen. Being we have been thrust into an “everyone for themselves kinda world”, we shouldn’t be supporting more response options that will further inflict financial duress on ourselves by imposing “t1t for tat” import tariffs on US goods. Brilliant original thinking here people. I would have more faith in made in Canada responses by the people.

The governments are saying that the money generated from the tariffs will be used to help laid off workers and tariff affected business'
As long as that happens toot for tat works. Trump just wants to line his coffers.

Murray, that is what I alluded to by saying support will happen regardless. So you, me and everyone one else who is a taxpayer pays. It is just that way, (and no real good way around it) whether the Feds were to support all those who will be affected with deficit spending or with the import tariffs tax. If it must be, then it doesn’t appear to be so targeted to minimize consumer pain when the auto industry is included. Might it be that the industry is just too damn attractive as a source of revenue for our officials to exclude, be damned you & me.

I agree the US tariffs will directly and greatly affect individuals employed in the industries that are being specifically targeted like automotive, steel and aluminum manufacturing perhaps and of course support industries but many at least from an employment perspective won’t be. Whereas on the other hand increased prices of consumer products and likely services of most types will cost everyone. Food will likely be a big one and everyone has to eat . Think unemployed folks or retired individuals like seniors for an example. At the end of the day trade wars cause damage in a variety of different ways not just direct job losses.

Be nice if it made a difference but it won’t unfortunately. Our best hope is the Midterms probably unless we get some divine intervention of some sort. Protests in 1200 locations total in all 50 states.

Here's my take on tariffs ..... who ever charges them on goods coming into their own country only makes things more expensive for their own citizens.

Carny .... poliver ( or whatever his name is ) claim the money they get from the tariffs they take in will go to those affected by the US tariffs.

If that isnt the biggest load of bulls**t I have ever heard ... I dont know what is ... Tariffs are nothing more than a breeding ground for corruption .

The way to stop Trump is to REMOVE all Canadian tariffs . Talking tough ... like the IDIOT ford will only create more conflict and animosity

Listen to this beautiful address by Senator John Kennedy .... I have to agree with him .....

First sensible thing I’ve heard from that side of the border in quite some time. They need more like him down there. And we could do with a few like him on this side of the border as well. Thanks for posting this Mr Nut . Made my evening.
