The Tariff Thread

If AI is a guide it “may not” without a fat thumb rounding the math up. The latest USMCA increased the requirement, so to be compliant today a vehicle requires 75% of NA content. AI shows the 2025 C8 Corvette NA components to be somewhere between 71% & 73%, so close. There also seems to be a May 19th provision to be compliant. Perhaps someone can find a more definitive answer.

What's your problem? It's clear as mud! Yes, They aren't not! ;)
Well that’s what I was thinking until I realized that even if I didn’t know what the actual answer was after being told otherwise that it wouldn’t matter if what we thought we knew was actually not the actual reason why we could have been incorrect.

New cars will already go up in price with the the Turdump Tariffs. Some say as much as US$10K. Tack on the retaliation tariffs and you are likely looking at another large chunk. Time to look at Porsche, Lambo or Ferrari?
I just priced a 2024 911 4 GTS here in B.C. - very low mileage (90 km.) $220K + all the taxes here in communist BC 0f $73K = almost $300K. I was thinking of keeping my C8 ( which I absolutely love) and buying the 911 - which is absolutely loaded: rear axel steering, front lift and premium - top of the line stereo system in GT Silver & vert. If I lived in AB it would be in my garage - LOL.

Move! That is if you can since it's a communist state. ;) Alberta the land of the free and the Liberal haters. Such government resentment in this forum. LOL

Based on the Federal government we have had to put up with, and since it appears we will have to put up with again, it's a shame that not everyone east of Manitoba shares that resentment sentiment. ;)

The Simpsons show says, traitor trump is going to die on April 12th. As for the C8, boy did I get mine just in time. GM wanting the full exchange rate starting in 2024, now 25% tariffs and all those increases from GM. :Woohoo: At this rate the Vette will become unattainable for 90% of the pop.

I just did a build and price on a 2025 C8 pretty much identical to my 2024 and the bottom line was about $5,000 higher for reasons I’m not too clear on . I didn’t do a line by line comparison just the bottom line. But if they slap a 25% tariff on it plus of course the GST and luxury tax on top of that and all of a sudden, Owch .

There are reports that the 25% tariffs DO apply to USMCA cars but not the 10%.
Parts are exempt until May 2nd
So it would seem that the price of a C8 could rise in excess of $25,000 if Canada imposes the same tariff rate as the US . If that’s the case then the discounts on existing stock are going to disappear faster than toilet paper at a chili cook off . .What constitutes a USMCA car ?
A North American vehicle is considered CUSMA compliant if it meets specific rules of origin outlined in the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). Key requirements include:
• 75% Regional Value Content: At least 75% of the vehicle’s value must come from North America (Canada, U.S., or Mexico).
• Core Parts Requirements: Strong content requirements for core parts like engines and transmissions.
• Steel and Aluminum Content: 70% of the steel and aluminum used must be North American.
• Labour Value Content: A significant portion of the vehicle’s value must be produced by workers earning at least US$16 per hour.
These rules aim to incentivize production and sourcing within North America.
