Little early for anyone, including governments, to actually speculate on a dollar figure for multiple thousands of items that will either be directly or indirectly affected. There are many intricacies that will apply to those items. As an example Canada supplies car parts to the US. What is the value of those parts as Canada's counter tariffs will certainly apply. Another factor will be manufacturers and what portion of the tariffs will they eat, just to continue selling their goods at a price people can still afford. Basically it's a wait and see world out there right now.Does anyone know how the 25 % tariff is calculated on a new C8 coming into Canada ?
From the Financial Post. Although I saw one opinion today saying that the increase could be as much as $9,000 on higher end vehicles. I would imagine a sliding scale depending on vehicle cost but it doesn’t appear that it would be anywhere near 25% on top of all prices.Does anyone know how the 25 % tariff is calculated on a new C8 coming into Canada ?
Ya, Isaw it on CTV news channel this morning.Saw this article on the CTV news site. CBSA has started charging a 25% tariff on cars over 25 years being imported to Canada. A MOPAR guy got the shock at the border.

‘I was in shock’: Winnipeg man slapped with $46K bill to bring dream car into Canada
A Winnipeg man is sending a warning to Canadians after he found himself caught in the middle of the Canada-U.S. trade war – a war that could cost him more than $46,000.www.ctvnews.ca
That's crazy.Ya, Isaw it on CTV news channel this morning.
When the orange dictator is removed from office. That's crazy.
How does bringing this classic Charger across the border affect anyone's job on either side?
It wasn't long ago I was pondering picking up a classic Corvette and the U.S. seemed a likely source.
I had a glance at the 'rules' associated with doing this, and it didn't appear to be too far out of reach.
I never thought for a moment that the tarrifs would even come into play.
Makess you wonder when all this nonsense will end.
"Go Fund Me"?After watching the segment I really feel badly for the poor man. It is his dream car, I am going to assume he probably saved for years or made other sacrifices to achieve his dream, and that is why he is so emotional. That dream is being taken away from him by Trump, I know it is a Canadian tariff that is hitting him but Trump is the cause of it. I grew up in the era of the 60's - 70's muscle cars, I had a 64 Ford Fairlane 500 sports coupe, it only had the 289, 2 speed auto, but this was the car that became the Thunderbolt when they dropped the 427 into it. I had a 68 Chev Acadian (Nova body style), 327, 4 speed, M20 Muncie, approx 375 HP, quick little buggy. I once ran a 427 Nova 4 times and beat it every time. On the slower side of things I also had a 75 L48 Vette with the underwhelming 165 HP 350 ci.
My point is that I can fully understand why possibly losing his dream car from that special muscle car era is so heartbreaking (put yourself in his shoes if the same thing happened to you with your C8 when you were waiting for it to arrive).
I am 71 and not a techie so i don't have the tools to do it properly, but I think it would be great if someone started a Go Fund Me page for this guy so he can possibly experience the thrill of sitting in his car when he gets it home and knowing it is his now and he can start living his dream. I think we can all remember that special feeling with our own Vette's when we got them.
Once again, just one man's opinion.
I have had a thought, and I am seriously considering having some red baseball caps made up with the following slogan in white lettering.
MAKE AMERICA
SANE AGAIN
If you are so inclined, feel free to use the slogan as you see fit. I am not seeking royalty compensation, even if I did I would probably have to pay a tariff on it.
I hope everyone has a great day.
Easy, let's not get too aggressive. I agree with you though. Someone must have thought importing old cars is a rich mans thing. Can't think of any other reason for tariffs on old cars."Go Fund Me"?
Are you serious?
While I do feel bad for him, he obviously has enough personal wealth to buy a $98,000 (U.S.) toy.
I'm wondering if you would feel the same way if this guy was a 30 year old lawyer with a few corvettes and a Ferrari already in his stable.
The issue here is the tarrifs being used totally inappropriately, not the state of the individual that got screwed over.
I get it that an obvious stroke victim makes for better tv coverage, but let's not lose sight of the real point here.
Having said that, if you are losing sleep over this guys plight, sign him over your vette - I'm sure that would help to pick up his spirits.
My apologies if I came across too aggressive.Easy, let's not get too aggressive. I agree with you though. Someone must have thought importing old cars is a rich mans thing. Can't think of any other reason for tariffs on old cars.
I honestly did not believe that having and showing compassion for an elderly "car guy' who obviously has, possibly, a few good years to enjoy his dream car would elicit such a negative reaction. As I stated, its "just this mans opinion". DW, I hope you have an excellent day.My apologies if I came across too aggressive.
I just find it very upsetting when a politician uses a completely unrelated excuse only to reach for more tax dollars.
"It looks like the banana crop is faultering for the third straight year - we better raise capital gains on resale homes".
That sort of nonsense.
As for the 77 year old guy getting the shaft - I hope at that age I'm still as spry and able to travel around looking at hot rods as he is.
I wish him only the best.
He's only 4 years older than me and I better have a lot more than a few good years left!I honestly did not believe that having and showing compassion for an elderly "car guy' who obviously has, possibly, a few good years to enjoy his dream car would elicit such a negative reaction. As I stated, its "just this mans opinion". DW, I hope you have an excellent day.
Welcome to the forum. Here’s a link that explains a lot about how it all works. Enjoy your stay !This is the liberals making sure they suck all the enjoyment they can out of peoples lives.
