I am smelling a large amount of gas fumes from my car after filling it up. Then after driving for a while the smell goes away. Any thoughts as to what might be the issue? Thanks!

Do you stop when the pump does or do you try to squeeze more in?I am smelling a large amount of gas fumes from my car after filling it up. Then after driving for a while the smell goes away. Any thoughts as to what might be the issue? Thanks!
I stop. The smell is not coming from the gas cap.Do you stop when the pump does or do you try to squeeze more in?
Thank you!Best guess…a leak at the top of the tank. Could be a leak around the sending unit for the gauge or a deteriorated line for part of the emission control system. If you can get the car up on a hoist right after a fill you may be able to see staining from the leaking fuel to pin point the area.
No. There is no light displayed and no codes are being thrown. The car also starts immediately and runs like a top.Is the check engine light on? Is the car harder to star after refiling?
Thank you! There is some very good coming up on that search.Try a google search "C5 Fuel Odour"
