Rough Running

Well, it all began with the initial spring start. Ran very rough, idle jumped up and down, engine stalled.
I cleaned a few electrical connections, cleaned throttle body, seemed OK.
Problem returned, I replaced plugs and wires, seemed OK.
Problem returned, I replaced fuel filter, ignition module, air filter and serpentine belt, checked injectors, seemed OK.
Problem returned, checked codes, and per codes, checked for air leaks, replaced Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), Idle Air Controller (IAC) and Mass Air Pressure Sensor (MAP), did not correct problem.
Wits end, at this point I am out about $680.00 in parts.

Take to shop. Local shop, small but very busy and willing to work on older vehicles. They checked fuel pressure and timing and some other things, couldn't resolve. Called in electronic specialist, no quick answer, so shipped it to specialists shop. Specialist tried to test drive, could not get it into any gear ( 6spd standard). Back to 1st shop. 1st shop replaces clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder, still no gears, replace clutch plate (flywheel was OK) and starter. Back to electronic shop, has it for 2 weeks, reports no running problems, I go to pick it up. Starts , idles, tranny works. I remain baffled, I do not know how replacing a bunch of mechanical things can correct a mysterious rough running problem. Also baffled at why it took 6 weeks in the shops.

The 1st shop didn't charge me for the slave and master cylinders as those were not the problem, also didn't charge for the new starter. The electronic specialist charged nothing as found nothing. I paid out $2800 to the 1st shop.

So here I am out about $3400 and unsure how it all got fixed and it crossed my mind "maybe its time to sell?" I took it out for a good run and on the Bass Lake sideroad, a tree covered, serpentine stretch not far from home. The fall colours were beautiful, the gears shifted right, it cornered like a corvette and... it put a great big grin on my face.... So..... Nope, gotta keep it!

Well the story continues. The replaced clutch was quite rough on engagement. Mech said it would work in and could take up to 1000KMS. So about the end of May 2025 I had driven the distance but the clutch remained very rough, so back to the shop May 30. Mechanic stated will replace clutch under warranty at no charge. long story short is Replacement clutch plate no problem but new flywheel incorrect. Decide to install complete conversion kit as dual mass flywheels not available. Ordered kit from Corvette Depot, ad stated if ordered by July 4 delivery by July 9. No show. Corvette Depot now said delivery by Aug 15th!?!?. So ordered kit from Corvette Central with delivery July 24. July 28th Mech said got Kit from Depot but missing Bolts. While trying to resolve this kit showed up from Corvette Central.
Mech installed the CC kit and replaced all of the work he did last fall Clutch Master Cyl, Slave Cyl and starter all under warranty. He only charged me for the flywheel portion of the kit and 2 U-joints. Finally picked it up today, basically 7 weeks.
I don't blame the shop for the supply issues, but I do have a beef with Corvette Depot. Firstly their product delivery dates were way
off and when delivered were short of parts. In addition Corvette Depot will not refund the shop for the full amount claiming they have a 72 hour return deadline and are only offering a prorated return amount. IMO that is B.S.
So its back , its driving well, My mechanic was reasonable, the timeline was crazy. I conclude that a) your corvette may not be able to be fixed as fast as you think and b) Do not deal with Corvette Depot, I note I never will again.
