There are some openings a mouse can enter that you can't close. Somehow a couple of mice got into my Camaro. It was stock from that perspective, but they found a way. Squished past seals or something.

Delinquent squirrels
My 1979 MGB has been stored annually in an unheated modern barn since 2005 without a single issue of rodent damage. As you can well imagine, a small British 1970's car has more holes than could possibly be found and blocked. Mice can climb tires and have full access to the engine area. I use a combination of moth balls and dryer sheets throughout the car at the time of storage. Smells awful in Spring!
