Results of todays CEL code read and on xcrossing......

HLN A55, Manny et tout la gang,

My hat off to you sir! That may be some sound advice. Maybe remove them when the car goes into storage? Keep them in the between seat cubby when not in use?

So Vararam out, original back in place. Actually it was remarkably simple to remove as I kept everything together, undid the closest hose clamp, undid the snaps and pulled the whole thing out.

Putting the piece I cut out from the shroud back in place and getting it to stay there I am not confident. Duct tape either does not like this type of plastic or when it is cold. But The bottom pins are in place - that was tricky but the rest went well. The only loss was one of those MAF sensor screws got lost - those wierd torx type head with the pin. But I had another screw about the same size and so used that.

So the car is warming up as we speak and I'm about to take it for a test drive. One question for Manny. Someone said it would throw a code again, why would this piece missing do that??

1)Is putting that shroud piece that I cut out back in place while the Vararam issue gets worked out that important. I mean the pins at the bottom should hold it in place but my duct tape job I'm not that confident about. As long as the bottom holds it ought to be OK but the top and sides I'm not so sure about.

So I'm heading out and for the 1st time in a few weeks I DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE LIKE COLIN and I am so excitred to hear my LS7 roar again, even if it is only 505 hp and not 515 to 545 hp........sniff!

I'm going to practice my slaloming........

So for all those who've been on the ride with me, pray, sacrifice small animals, cross body parts!

One last point. Yes I'm disappinted with how this has turned out, right now, but I don't regret for a single nano-second having undertaken this project. I have installed CAI on three other of my vehicles and this was a natural for me to undertake as well with the Z06. For whatever reason there was a glitch. At least that is what I am hoping, that I don't get a CEL with the stock filter, no more CEL for this guy for a bit please!

Cheers,

Garry

Sorry I posted this in the wrong thread just 30 sec ago..............

OK, so back from the trip. No CEL lights after 80 - 90 km. Car old self, still pulls strong. Got high into the engine speed, tried to work it good and the dash stayed dark. Happy that it is back to its old self, sad this took most of three weeks to work through to end up right where I started.

Poor old Colin will never be the same after this trip, nor his mule.........

Practiced serpentine driving between dashes on the pavement, good thing Alberta has untravelled, paved roads!

A question for the autocrossers though. The club president in Dawson Creek tells me that the highest speed we'll hit is 60km/hr. That being the case do I go for 1st gear and run up to 4400 rpm or 2nd gear and run no more than 2900 rpm??? Torque or horsepower, which do I want? I don't think I want to be shifting gears so I can keep both hands on the steering wheel for control so which way am I better to go?

Cheers,

Garry

Good morning!

Just over 24 hours to go.

The Dawson Creek Autocross Club is really going out on this. The club president (I think) Tri Nguyen's family operates a hotel and restaurant and is giving a really discounted price to out-of-towners to stay there which was very thoughtful of them.

I've emailed with Tri a number of times and it was as if he could not do enough for me to answer my questions and encourage me. Like the majority of vehicles I expect there will be imports, Tri currently drives a Skyline GTR, his previous car being a RX7, both black. I mentioned to Tri that my son is suffering from "Fast & Furious" franchise syndrome and what would I have to do to get him a ride in his "dream car" (like Brian's car at the beginning of the 2nd movie) and Tri said that he would take him for a hot lap no problem, consider it done. Obviously a real car guy!

Sort of the response I'd have expected from oh say a Z06 owner that my son and I met on Main Street in Peae River this summer that never materialized.........!

Regarding your question Riley, apparently 5 to 8 runs depending on how smoothly the event goes, how many entered etc. I have been thinking about the suggestion of doing the run in 2nd gear as the advantage is that you never have to touch the clutch, just break and gas. I was also wondering how easy it would be to have my right foot on the gas and the left foot on the brake, if ones normal habits can be overcome?

I've also thought about trying out both gears as per your suggestion. At least the spectators would get treated to a Z06's LS7 at higher engine rev's rather than 2nd gear's 2900 rpm! But you're probably right, try them both out. I'm starting from square one so I imagine while my times will not eb that good as a newbie I'm probably going to have fun all out of proportion to the cost to enter ($45) and the time to drive there and so forth. Honestly it is one of the reasons to own a car like this, to have fun legally, and as there is no road course (Hythe maybe, where the High North Sports Car Club runs events, also two hours distance??) this is the closest sort of way I can get to safely pushing the car a bit more without risking hurting anyone.

I will be taking both camera's and spare batteries and giving my son my original ancient digital camera for him to take pictures with - the ones he took at "Race the BAse" were funny but a good learning experience for him and it also allows me to see what he thinks is important about this event (500 Skyline pictures, 1 Z06 picture - blurry too!).

Still hoping that Manny takes with Steve at Vararam so I can still get that back in the car, otherwise $450 down the drain..............

Cheers,

Garry
