Random Pictures You Took

So lame....
As of right now that fire is only 900 meters from the edge of the town according to this morning’s report. It has already burned 890 sq km . A monster . Apparently the wind shifted this morning so fingers crossed.

How far from you...
That one is a fair distance. About 300 km but there are a few within 100 .But the smoke can travel a very long distance.they were getting smoke in Portugal from Canadian fires . The fire that caused the second evacuation of Hay River the year before last moved 40 km in 24 hours. Unbelievable. It’s really hard to grasp what a force of nature these monster fires are unless you have experienced it. On the way back home when I picked up my car in Edmonton I drove through the area that burned which took out 90% of Enterprise. At the start I checked the odometer and when I finally came to the end of it I had gone almost 90 km . Still some flames and smoke along the side of the highway. Very eerie. Burnt as far as you could see to each side of the road to the visible horizon.

How close do they have to get before they issue evacuation orders? Keep your cars on the Battery Tenders and stay safe...
Depends to a great degree on the wind . That is usually the main factor. When we were evacuated for three weeks in August 2023 the fire was still about 45 km away. But they can move at a rapid rate. They create their own weather. They just now reopened the only highway heading south from here for the first time in three days. It passes Fort Providence so hopefully that means the wind has shifted and will help the situation there .

Must be horrible to have you life turned upside down like that. Disaster after disaster everyday on the news it seems....
We were pretty lucky that the fire didn’t get any closer than about 20 km . Could have been a whole lot worse. Got to Alberta and was met with incredible hospitality. They had evacuation centres set up where you could register and get food vouchers for 3 squares a day good at about 15 different restaurants in my case . They also picked up my entire hotel bill. They had a number of activities for everyone like barbecues with local talent playing and stuff for kids to do. Farmers were talking care of peoples horses if they had them. Free camping for those with motor homes or tents if they chose. Etc . Heart warming really.
As for Fort Providence this is what they were looking at last night and the wind was blowing towards town….about only a kilometre away at that point apparently. Fn scary as hell. Huge. Eats everything in its path. Saw a highways shop that had burned in Enterprise and it was a metal framed and metal sided building which was now just a twisted pile of steel. Like pretzels. Hard to get your head around….

Had no idea, that incredible. Info I have never heard of before.

Did your room have a minibar...
Liquor store two blocks. Bar in the lobby. It had a toaster, coffee maker, microwave, kettle and a mini fridge. Pretty nice room actually.

Let's hope no one has to go through that again...
The biggest and one of the only benefits from the evacuation here is that now the city is very well “ fire smarted “ because they cut a fire break of about 30 km total around the city. This started maybe a week before the evacuation was called. Took them over a month but still an impressive accomplishment in that length of time. It’s about 100 metres wide.
I feel for those that are out of their homes now. Not knowing if they will have one to go back to.
