Oil

oil life is a product of time as well as mileage. if i remember manufacturer maintenance directive for c8's, its either of 7500 miles or 1 year but you really need to talk to your dealer if your purchase date is different than the book date from the dealer which is also different than its birth date from bowling green. Example, my 2025 car was born on oct. 11th, 2024, and arrived at the dealer on dec. 2, 2024 but listed the sale through GM as Jan. 2, 2025 but I didn't sign papers and write the cheque until march 26, 2025.

My dealer is letting me have my first oil change as soon as the roads are swept from rocks and sand, so a conversation with your dealer is important.

Personally from a break in point i highly recommend oil change after your second break in mark of 1500 miles at which point you are allowed to track the car as well as perform launches. I also highly recommend changing your DCT filter at this time. Some people recommend doing the oil change at the first break in point of 500 miles. Choice is yours really as its above and beyond what GM describes but when i cut open the dct filter and the oil filter i did find extremely tiny fines of break in material so i myself would highly recommend against continuing to recirculate that in the initial fluids from bowling green. Best to keep it as clean as possible and reset with new filters. You'll sleep better at night.

The DCT can be testy for some, but keep in mind the majority of forum posts you read on the DCT are only those who have problems and not the thousands that don't. I strongly believe you will prolong any potential valvebody issues by simply changing the DCT filter more often. Changing the internal filter at the prescribed GM interval is a whole 'nother discussion but i'm pretty sure its not required by GM techs at the 7500 mark or the next one...

my vin is 801, what's your 25?

The first 2 oil changes are free. Get it done when it says it's time. You should be past the break-in period by that time anyway so it won't hurt to get it done. The car must have been sitting for about 9 months before you bought it. Oil absorbs water even while sitting around.
As above, it's by time as much as by anything else.

Good day! Brand new purchase 2025
28km on the car and oil life says 27 percent ?!
Any insight into why?
When should I do first oil change?
Thank you
Hi John . that is a bit odd . Never hurts to do the first oil change early like just after break in . Get out any bits possibly kicking around after the engine being put together . Some may disagree but as I always say , oil cheap , engine expensive . And here is a link to the digital owners manual if you don't already have it . Should be pretty well identical to the 2025 one.

Did my oils change myself at 1200kms and change out the dct filter the other day at 1800kms.
I wil do at least another oil change at some point before my free oil change at 12500 kms and free dct filter at the dealership.
I did my first (free) oil change at 3000km
I have 5000 km on it now and it’s been sitting for the winter.
I will take it for an oil change when I get her on the road first week of May.
BTW, I bought a maintenance package so all my oil and canister changes are free til i hit 7 yrs or 60K km

No such luck for the Z06 guys. Maintenance Pkg.

A C7 here.
I typically change my oil just before winter storage - Nov 1st - so 100% oil life.
When I take it out May 1st, the oil life is usually between 50% - 60%
So just sitting there the oil will deteriorate.
I had remarked, but can't confirm, that the more use on your engine (touring) in the summer season the slower oil life deteriorates. First noticed this when I did the MITM. I had thought I would need an oil change out in Winnipeg but it oil life hardly went down

From the internet.

How Long Can Synthetic Oil Sit in an Engine?

The exact amount of time that engine oil, especially synthetic oil, can sit around unused inside an engine before it loses most of its properties varies greatly depending on a lot of factors – local climate, temperature, ambient humidity, additive package, oil type, amount of time the vehicle has been sitting unused, etc.

For example, if you’re living in a dry state with extremely low humidity like Nevada, then the oil inside your car’s engine can sit for a much longer time when compared to a high humidity state. Because the ambient humidity is low all year round, there are fewer chances of moisture condensing inside the engine.

But to give you a rough idea overall, in most cases, synthetic oil can sit inside an engine unused for a maximum of 2 years before it loses its properties and needs to be changed (although it’s recommended to change it after a year). As for blends and conventional engine oil, that timeframe is reduced to 1-1.5 years, as mineral oil is more susceptible to oxidation and hydrolysis.

Bear in mind the monitoring system goes by both milage and time . That oil is no doubt as good as when you put it in in the fall. It certainly hasn't degraded by 55% just sitting in the crankcase. Of course the owners manual says once a year regardless I believe. Have to keep the dealers service departments happy........
