HI Forum mates,

Last night I took my car to the local track (it was my first time ever on a track or drag strip)

Car ran great and man was the lapping fun!

I did have one issue and I am wondering if anyone has heard of this.

After several laps I went with my buddy to the drag strip, I let the car cool off first.

I did make my first pass with no issues but the event happened on my second pass.

On pass #2 I heated up my tires ( I was in track mode with TC off). After I heated up the tires I turned on the TC drove to staging and went to put the car in reverse and it would not go into reverse. It is an M7.

I left the line and shut the car off and it was fine and has been no issue since.

I did make my first pass with no issues but the event happened on my second pass.

Has anyone heard anything about this? I can't find anything. I am wondering if the car went into launch mode and has some type of reverse lock out.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

I don't own a C7 so take this with a grain of salt. Reverse solenoid glitch more than likely. It's happened on most of my GM cars, corvette is not impervious to this issue. Solenoid gets stuck on occasion. Don't think launch control would be triggered unless you were stomping on the gas pedal.

Keep an eye on it, if it happens again when the car is hot as it would've been you may have an issue.

Thanks Nik, I appreciate the feedback, it certainly put a damper on my evening when I thought my car had an issue.

FPT, I hope what Nik has suggested is in fact the answer/cure to the difficulties you had. How did the car run? Any times? Drag racing is a bit of an art to get a quick pass so there really is no slow time.

A number of years ago I was at St. Thomas Dragway with my friend racing his B/Altered. His friend who always traveled with us ran a Ford Model A with a Hilborn injected small block in B/Street Roadster. He had let his car roll through the beams and the starter allowed him to back up, the stage lights clicked on the tree started down and he left about 7 thousand rpm. Still in REVERSE. Scared the crap out of the guy behind him who had just started his burnout towards the lights. Under ware wash time!!

Well in typical internet fashion I was noncommittal.

It's either software (ECU not signalling or thinks you shouldn't be going into reverse), hardware (solenoid going bad or out of alignment) or rarely electrical (out of bounds condition, wiring issue etc)

In my experience all my troubles were with the solenoid going bad. It's an easy replacement on an old school T56 tranny and not the end of the world.

But yeah how did the car do ? :)

Well I am bit embarrassed as I guess a 0.89 reaction time is not the ideal. I have never been on a drag strip in my life and the tree was foreign to me. I pulled a 13.2 and definitely felt I could improve on that. My buddy was there with his new Camaro ZL1 and he forgot to turn on his traction control and I beat him handily :) He wanted a re-match and then I had my issue.

He did run a 12.9, that car is fast! All in all it was a lot of fun. You had unlimited road course time and unlimited passes on the strip for a whopping $30! I have to admit that pushing the car and hearing all 4 tires squeal around the corners is not something I have done often, however last night I did it lap after lap. It made me feel a little sad that I was pushing my baby so hard. It was kind of like the feeling you would have if you cheated on your wife (I ASSUME)! Needless today the car is being pampered, washed and waxed.

Thanks for the input on the reverse issue, the car is going Monday for the 4G update and I will question the dealer on my issue, I may hold back a few truths ;)

FPT, you should feel no embarrassment at all. Drag racing is deceptive. It truly is an art. You now have some experience and I expect those times will quickly improve.

Well done.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. Should be proud for driving your car the way it was meant to be driven. On the plus side the extra strain will shake down any weak links/defects well within your warranty period. Or so I hear.

So I am also new to the drag strip. A couple of questions.
When you make a pass should you use launch control?
What is the process for staging? Like I said I'm new.
Lots of open wheel experience but have never been in a drag race.
Hundreds of rolling starts in fields of 20 or more and several standing starts on bikes and in karts and cars.
Any advise would be helpful.
