Not a political thread but a legislative one?? Nice summary of what Canada is spearheading through Parliament (or attempting to) from an American channel of all places but still fairly inclusive of the arguments against. I'm not one to side with big tech but this one is a little 1984 if you catch my drift.

Discuss/complain/support? Want to hear the pros here.

Not like we have much privacy left anymore which irritates me to no end, but if we intend to stay connected, whether it be on line, on our phones, or even through purchases we make, we don't really have much choice. As far as just using the data as a tool to intercept intent or actual illegal action, I doubt that will be the case. I can see this Bill just culminating in the short term very much in a '1984' / 'Blade Runner' scenario. Then let's venture into a slightly more state of paranoia and look forward to a future when chips will be inserted into our brains and AI monitored to have us apprehended before a crime is even committed. Who would have thought the movies 'Thoughtcrimes' and 'Minority Report' themes would ever be a topic for discussion in the early 2000's as something we could be concerned about in our lifetime. Much that was science fiction in the last 100 years has entered our lives today. Some good, some not so good. JMO

A little bit ? Lol. Draconian. Unbelievable gall . As bad as them trying to tax foreign based companies that operate on the WWW just because their sites can be accessed with a web browser from Canada. Apparently they have backed off of that one due to pressure from Washington. One of the few things from that clown show that I agree with. It's even worse than trying to force foreign streaming platforms to contribute to Cancon . Which apparently they have backed down on as well. I do like a lot of GN's coverage of tech topics, usually very well researched but they have been getting a bit political lately even if they claim not . The series they did on Nvidia Gpu's falling off the back of the truck and ending up in China was long but very well done . Steve Burke studied and actually became fairly proficient at speaking Mandarin for that one .

I would trust them about as far as I can spit .
There are steps you can take to mitigate a lot of it but it's more difficult and more of a pain than ever . This will more than add insult to injury. I'm sure a lot of folks are familiar with the series " Person of Interest " . We are well past that point . Bill C-22 is yet another reason to be aware of and USE services like Proton's . Fully encrypted email , cloud storage , VPN and file sharing which even Proton themselves can't decrypt. Based in Switzerland and developed and provided by the scientists at CERN. That's the Large Hadron Collider folks .

Too late now guys and gals. Ever since the dawn of the personal electronic age, think credit card, big brother has been able to track pretty well whatever we do. Short of carrying around a wad of cash, ditching you personal electronics, etc., they can see where you go what you buy, what you eat, what you wear, etc
Ins. companies want to track your driving habits so they can increase your payments when you exceed the speed limit or accelerate to fast.
SO as much as we don't like it, it is here to stay.
